Maxi scooters
« on: June 08, 2018, 18:37:34 »
I know a few of you on here have these?

Could anyone tell me if they take less effort to ride than a Glee, particularly with a pillion?

(My health is still in question after  a PE end of last year, mainly struggling with fatigue etc... and not willing to give up on two wheels yet.)

Go to a dealer and road test one.
You may get all your questions answered.

The Missenden Flier has posted a review on YouTube of the 650 Burgman. He seems happy with it. They look very capable and I was impressed by Brockett's bike when he came up for a Yorkshire run. +1 for the test ride suggestion.  :thumb:

Not a Maxi, but.....

I have just picked up a Honda SH300i to go on the back of the Ratmobile, it is a lightweight thing (no over the top plastics) and it goes really well even with my ample frame. It has 16"wheels which makes it far more stable than a 'proper' Scooter.

I had a SH300i. Fantastic scooter. Looks like a 125 but is very quick. Fast enough to be in the outside lane of the motorway too  :thumb:

Out on a ride with a mate a while ago and on a stretch of motorway doing about 85 and bunch of bikes came past, probably doing about 100 and amongst them was a maxi scooter. Didn't know whether to be impressed or not :smirk:. The biggest seller here in France is the Piaggio MP3. The BMW 1200GS was tenth! Sensible people the French

I used a Honda Silverwing FJS600 for ten years commuting. I chose a Maxi because the motor doesn't form part of the suspension on the bigger ones. Anyway of the T-Max, 650 Burgman and FJS600 I felt the Honda was best. It was well capable of motorway cruising speeds and higher. The protection was excellent. I currently own a Honda X-Adv but I suspect tht this would not be suitable for your purposes. However a riding buddy has a recent Yamaha T-Max and imho it is now one of the best of the Maxis. I have nothing against the Burgman other than it is huge. They will pull a pillion reasonably well as long as the roads are smooth.

Before V Strom L0 I had a Burgman 650. Very comfortable, lots of space under the seat, but certainly not so light ...
Riding with a pillion was easy for both.
