Aux power socket
« on: April 22, 2018, 17:16:50 »
I have an auxiliary usb / cigarette lighter type socket fitted to my DL1000GT (2007) that was done before I bought it. Its wired straight across the + and - of the battery.
I'm hoping to use this to power a mini compressor / tyre inflator to inflate an airbed while camping for a week. Any ideas if this will overload the alternator or battery. I'd  probably do it with the bike running to prevent battery drain.

It should work fine but just ensure that the fuse rating is sufficient for the compressor. Just an observation though, the usb port will be a constant drain on the battery unless there is a switch of some kind to turn it off manually.
Old enough to know better, but still too young to care...

that's right, make sure the fuses can handle the device it in the socket. Mobile and GPS should be fine, other items may require a heavier load of power. I have a Cycle pump and attach it by crocodile clips to the battery with the engine running, I tested it last week and it was working fine.
