Replacement Ignition switch. Where from ????
« on: November 05, 2011, 12:24:29 »
Hello all.

I'm trying, with no luck, to find a replacement ignition switch for my DL650K4.

The barrel is knackered and it takes me 5 mins to get it to work. A nightmare.

Well, you can buy pattern switches for practically any bike but I can't find one for the 650 ANYWHERE.....

I can't afford dealer prices.

HELP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you tried another key ? Most ignition switches can be repaired if the problem is getting the key to turn, not sure with the DL650 . You would need to take it to a good locksmith who has a workshop .

SV 650? Suzuki are pretty good at using one part on a whole range of bikes

Get a second hand lock set then you will have one key for all locks, e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Suzuki-04-VST ... 2c4cd927a3
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

I've tried both keys.... None work.

The problem is that it won't turn. You occasionally get lucky which is a PITA..

Can a locksmith fix that ?? Really ?? For under £40 (the price of a new pattern lock)

I've been looking at second hand lock sets. I really don't want to spend nearly £100 on old locks which are probably likely to go wrong in a few years.

I was hoping someone was going to say: "it's the same lock off a SV650 or Bandit etc etc"

I'm very surprised I can't find one on ebay or wemoto or anywhere on the web...

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo :banana-explosion:

There is a nearly new one on ebay in the states, you could message him to ask if he will ship to the UK, see here http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dl ... 0785654212

Thanks for that... It didn't come up on my search.

I've sent him a message. Fingers crossed.

Yes they will more than likely repair it but depends on how good the locksmith is ..I know a local bloke to me who'd do it but would need to see it first ...Have a look online and find a few local to you and give them a call . I took a lockset for a mate off a VW T4 to have the ignition repaired  , and for all the other locks to be keyed alike . The locksmith only charged me £50 but he is a mate ...

Before you do that, squirt loads of WD40 in the hole then put the key in and give a real good wiggle about and if it turns then turn it repeatedly to let the WD40 work it's way in.

I've had three apparently seized locks (not all Suzuki) that have succumbed to the charms of a nice oily wiggling!

3 months ago I had what seems to be the same. Had to call the AA out. New lock! No a real long squirt of ACF 50 and ha presto!!! Worked a treat, beats buying a new lock, give it a try………….

This lock has had WD40, Light machine oil and even rifle oil....

It's the mechanism that's fucked. One of the plates is out of place. You have to "snap" it over. Or try !!!!!!!!!!

It does have 50,000 miles on it. That's a lot of use.

The locksmith at work looked at a saddle lock on my Aprilia that had a similar problem.  He took the lock apart and it now operates with one less lever in it.  But it does still work at least.
