5 Epic roads in Wales?
« on: November 15, 2021, 23:04:29 »
Not really.....  just this chap's  opinion as there are so many more.  I really do like the roads in Wales and I'm hoping to be back in the land of my fathers Grandmother in the not too distant future.

This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

Most of the black mountain is now 40mph and usually full of idiots on sports bikes that can't ride or yobish car cruises.
The bala Ffestiniog area is great but also congested when the weather is nice.
The trap single track road is good, but very muddy and can be dangerous in bad weather.

I can think of a few roads that blow the ones in the video out of the water... but I'll keep them a secret   :icon_wink:
Ps we ride a fair few better roads on the August meet.
I'm planning a different route for next year that takes us around the army ranges of the Brecon Becons... if they aren't running an exercise.

I have just watched the video, I don't ride my Versys like that much more sedate these days, agree great roads but traffic etc I find an issue in Wales could have been due to those choosing to holiday at home much prefer west coast of Scotland lot quieter traffic wise.

Yeah, typical of the inconsiderate Welsh not to vacate the land of their fathers so you can hoon about in peace.

Are the people with the funny accents not tour guides in some big theme park?

I'm only still in Yorkshire 'cos I can't afford to go to that mecca of motorcycling, London.

I'm with him on the single lane stuff, it's a great way to avoid the general traffic and those who get their route ideas from guide books and major publications. The Peaks is insanely busy in nice weather so we always aim for the roads with grass down the middle. Granted meeting a motorhome on them does happen from time to time but at least you can point and laugh :)
That Bala/Ffestiniog road was great this year but nowhere near as enjoyable for me as Bwlch Y Groes which was deserted.

that mecca of motorcycling, London.

Do you need special tyres that provide better grip on gold to go there?

The one up-side of the NC500 becoming a 'thing' is that it concentrates the tourists onto a handful of roads leaving the rest of the country relatively clear to enjoy.

I used to find that diamond studded tyres grip the gold surface quite well.

The worst thing about anointing a route as a great road is that it soon becomes not so great with the influx of  nuisances arriving in the riding season! I'm English but but I don't count as I live here. Tourists are a pain unless you fleece them of £££'s. Biker visitors are not so bad as cagers but even worse are motor homes and caravans. Still, it all generates income  for a pretty poor country on the whole. Welsh roads are best when the tourists are gone but that's when the weather's crap  :angry-banghead:     Still I suppose us residents should be flattered that we call home where millions of English flock every summer!

October still has fairly good weather and most tourists have buggered off...

I like riding in October.

What's that? There's no shortage of good roads there so you don't have to panic ride them you say...?
