Givi ordered!
« on: January 24, 2015, 15:07:30 »
Just ordered a Givi Airflow.

Hope it's as good as it seems!

Any fitting tips?

And...rather than fitting Aprilia mirrors, do extenders work on the standard mirrors to reduce buffeting?

Gosh...it's been a long winter, but Spring is on its way.  Roll on.

I'd try a ride without any mirrors fitted, if after fitting the new screen you're still getting turbulence. Still get turbulence with no mirrors means that the Aprillia ones are unlikely to get rid of it.

I put mine on mid week. I've got it on the top set of mounting holes. I messed around with the screen height and have settled on the screen being just slightly more than half way way up. This seemed to suit me (5'10) and gave me the best compromise of protection amd visibility. I found if I had it all the way up the top of the screen tended to be in my line of vision.

I'll probably try dropping it all the way down in the summer, if we get one in Scotland!

As for fitting, dead easy job. Just the usual really, get the spacer/rubbers etc all lined up and get all 4 fixings started before you tighten them up.

I've got the cheapo look-a-likey tuono mirrors from China/Hong Kong. I had them fitted before the screen and they do make a difference, maybe 20% of the improvement. The screenhas really helped the buffeting and I rode without earplugs and it was fine. I'd probably still wear them on long/high speed runs, but for my commute through town in traffic I won't bother. With the standard screen (with the washer trick) it was unbearable above 35mph.

OK, so now fitted but not tested yet...too cold!

I had to 'flatten' the screen a bit to get the screw holes to engage and the outer covers were a bit more tricky to lie up but it only took about 5 mins.

I sat on the bike and am slightly concerned that the viewing of the area immediately in front of the front wheel is via two sheets of plastic with branding stickers so judging distances close up behind anything may need some head-bobbing to get right.

As I say, not tested yet so a fuller review to follow.

Quality product I'd say.

OK, about 6 miles of dual track to try it on today dodging the showers..

First impressions with the screen on the lowest set of mounting holes and lowest setting are that there is way less buffeting with only a small amount of wind noise at the sides of the helmet. This was up to about 90 (I'll deny it!!).

I tried it at centre setting and I don't think a lot was any better but I did then have to watch the road from behind the plastic rather than over it. I'm about 5' 10" so may get away with the lowest settings. Anyway, I reckon this is a damn fine excuse to get some riding in under the disguise of screen testing.

I did notice a bit of front-to-back flex when hitting bumps but with the added height and weight I guess that's a bit to be expected.

First impressions? Pretty good. I've got some Aprilia mirrors on the way and let's see what the whole package does.

So far I have fitted a Givi Airflow screen, Aprilia mirrors (cheap Chinese copies, but they work well) and mirror extenders.

I was on the motorway yesterday and at 80ish there was minimal buffeting and a lot less general wind noise - in fact, I slowed down a bit as I got an unusual noise and eventually figured out I could actually hear the engine at 80 which I never have been able to before!

I don't know which item has done the most - the screen I guess - but in this case I think 1+1+1 = 4 with the whole package doing a great job. Much more 'rideable'.

The mirror extenders give a much better view behind with my shoulders hardly showing at all.

Job done. Great result. Thanks to all who have recommended this route.

I second that, if you start to hear the engine and transmission more your starting to get things right.
Unless of course you haven't altered anything........ :fix:
