Title: What lube for caliper slide pins?
Post by: Brockett on July 22, 2023, 19:04:35
Is there a proprietary brand of lubrication for brake caliper slide pins. I think the grease in my cupboard is too thick ( sticky) or too runny and sensitive to heat. Does anyone have a recommendation for this?

Nothing on the pins. All it will do is hold grit.

If there is rubber in that location then make sure whatever you use is compatible.
You'll get as many recommendations as replies, I'd follow whatever it recommends in the service manual. Permatex is a good brand.
Good luck.

I use red rubber grease on anything near the rubber and copper slip on the nuts and bolts elsewhere.

I use MS2 (molibdium di sulphide!!) grease on items that I don't want to seize in place. Used in the off shore industry on under water applications.

If using Moly I would go for the paste rather than grease due to its higher Moly concentration. Although the Moly Paste/Grease threads can be longer than oil threads......
......no, honest!
When I use Moly, I like the Loctite 8012, but it's blummin expensive. It seems OK around rubber.

I bought two rubber boots from Fleabay and they arrived yesterday. Today I stripped the caliper ( for the fith time) and this time examined the old boots which when removed and compared to the new ones look as if they've become swollen and that is probably why the caliper pins were reluctant to slide.
The boot fits into the caliper and the mounting pin slides inside it.
Two boots for £9.90 and Yamaha could not supply so these pattern parts will do. Just a good and fith of the price.
