Honda VFR1200 Cross tourer Highlander
« on: February 11, 2018, 11:38:54 »
Well
After much deliberation I have finally decided to purchase a new Honda VFR1200 Highlander I looked at the Yam Tracer the engine is a peach but let down by small tank and uncomfortable riding position.
The FJR 1300 what a bike but sadly these bikes are like dinosaur soon to be extinct felt too low but apart from being overpriced its BMW prices this was a no too the same as the Super Ten just too expensive once you added the kit.

The Honda came out of the blue its fully kitted out as you can see beautiful V4 engine and shaft drive which I love.
So the price was excellent nearly £2000 cheaper than the above on an 18 plate pick her up in a couple of weeks here are her photo debut

Thanks I thought so too and she has the looks of a Strom if only Suzuki could a shaft drive version.

And by the way any one in the market for a nice clean Strom on a 16 plate with 7500 on clock I know where one is going . :lala:

Nice bike, and a good choice I think.
I'm a fan of both the 800 and 1200 Crosstourers..., and I really don't know why they aren't more popular. Their styling is not quite as aggressive as most adventure style bikes but I think it's perfect as a ADV style tourer.
Lets us know how you get on as I might want one one day.  :thumb:

I know what you mean, as when I got mine I actually went to try the triumph explorer, but felt I was sitting in it rather than on it. they showed me this and off I went for an hour. WOW they even offered an extra £500 on my strom to seal the deal.
I did find the screen rather small so bought a givi which makes so much difference.
the engine is a beaut and as you say... its a sharty YAY

mine had OEM tyres on it that I found awful, so swapped them for GT Angels which when new were great but didn't last long at all. PR4 and all seems so much better.
hope to see you on it soon

ps on the crosstourer forum there is a template for a wind deflector that sits in the gap between the tank and forks, this seems to work well for the buffeting also

Hi kissodeath

Thanks for the heads up I will look for their forum yes I will be looking for a taller screen shame none of fit these as a standard as for tyres I will try the ones fitted once worn will then look at alternatives but like you the dealer offered £1000 extra couldn't refuse.

they are desperate to get rid of them as they don't hold the price, I can't understand it myself as its a great bike with a stunning bulletproof engine. if you ask the dealer they may allow you to try different screens before you buy (if they have them)

That looks like the bike I sat on at Rochdale Honda. Lovely bikes, I just wish they had a cruise control. Peach of an engine, by all accounts too.

Well I disagree they hold their price better than a Strom but they are being over shadowed by the African Twin as they are pushing them like crazy hence not on most peoples radar wasn't on mine I had forgotten about them and yes tall Paul I did get her from Rochdale and you may well of sat on her if you're nice to me I may allow you a sneaky ride .

Funnily enough I was looking at one of those on the tinterweb t’other day.
As said, they’re a bit ‘left field’ for some reason, but look a bloody good piece of kit.
I’ve had and enjoyed two VFR’s in the past, with the shaft drive I bet these are even more useable.
Nice bike, look forward to hearing more about it.  :thumb:

Yes nice looking bike, well done.
Not much difference in price so the 1200 with the shaft drive makes sense. :thumb:

Well KD I got offered £6k for my Strom one thing I have noticed is that the profit margins for bike dealers is a lot tighter than say car dealerships but I find you have to do a lot of leg work to find the bargains they are out there and nice to see you on the cross tourer forum they seem a friendly bunch too.
