Unsubscribing from 'new replies' threads?
« on: February 22, 2018, 14:25:24 »
You know when you click on "Show new replies to your posts" and a short list of threads pops up... is there a way of 'unsubscribing' specific threads from that list?   It's a very useful feature, but there a few really long-term threads on there which I've long since lost interested in and would really rather not have flagged up all the time (the '4 word story' thread, which I misguidedly once contributed to about a year ago, is a good example! )

Go into the thread and select "unnotify" (near the reply button)  :thumb:

Just had a look to”unnotify”and can’t see it.(It just took half a dozen attempts to type “unnotify” and it would not let me do it with the - in the middle of the word, how weird).

Thanks for that.
Only thing is, there ain't no "unnotify" button  in the offending threads, just a 'notify' button!   Anyway, I clicked that, then clicked "unnotify", so will see what happens...

Clicking the "Mark all as read" will reset the list, won't it?

Yep, just to confirm - the notify/unnotify thing doesn't work for me... is anyone else sure it definitely works for them?   By which I mean can you 'unnotify' yourselves from automatically having new replies to your own threads being flagged?  It seems to me that the NOTIFY button must just be for flagging threads which you haven't contributed to.

And yep, Rusty, "Mark all as read" will do exactly that... until someone posts on the thread(s) in question again!

You should receive an email to let you know a post has been made in a section you are subscribed to. Within that email should be an unsubscribe link.

Freddy, basically I don't think you can do what you are asking for, "Show new replies to your posts" will always list all posts that you have made a comment on, you have asked the system to show you ALL threads that you commented on that have new replies so whether you are interested in that one or not it will always show those that have new posts added.
This is the same for "Show unread posts since last visit", this will show ALL threads with new posts, post updates since your last login.
As I understand it the way to view ONLY the posts you have an interest in is to choose the notify option and respond to the email notifications you receive, when you are not interested in that post then choose unnotify and you won't receive email notification.
The two options above will show you all threads that have new posts on them.

That is how I understand it to work.

Aha! Looks good, I thought.  I've not been receiving these emails at all, so I found the relevant setting and ticked the box.  Now I am getting them; so I clicked the unsubscribe link and all seemed fine - however - it's not affecting the "show new replies to your posts" and they still appear there.  As a check, I tried posting again this morning on "Four Word Story" (sorry if I buggered up your tale, chaps!) and subscribing/unsubscribing again, and also clicking "Mark all as read"; but that thread has just reappeared in my Updated Topics list.

I know, first-world problems and all that!

Don't push the "Show new replies to your posts" button.
Job done.
I never use it.

I just use 'show unread posts since last visit' and read the ones I'm interested in. I then just click 'Mark as read' for the ones I'm not interested in or have already posted in (e.g. Introductions I've already commented on). I then just click the 'Show all unread' button to check there's nothing I've missed.

Me too. Seems to make more sense than the "other" button.
