screen problem
« on: August 11, 2011, 16:14:04 »
Hi all.

just fitted a new screen to the bike. its one of them ones that are about 4" higher and about an extra 2" each side.
now the problem I have got is its shaking my head in a way that is giving me a headache. anyone else had this problem with this type of screen and know of a good fix. I'm about 6ft 1" tall.

This is the screen here. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/260828869899

Try placing some washers under the lower screws to angle the screen back a little bit or try 1 of these http://www.bikehps.com/madstad/ a lot more expensive but multi adjustable  :thumb:

here are some photo's of the screen fitted. its on the highest fitting (no3) and there are 2 5mm nuts, 1 behind each side of the screen at the bottom. I have not tried this setting yet.

will try this tomorrow with and without the mirrors fitted

Probably best to fit the spacers between the screen bracket and the main fairing of the bike rather than between screen and bracket. I had about 8mm of spacers under the bottom mount screws (had to use longer screws though), it made a huge amount of difference with even the stock screen. Sadly (for you) I've just sent them to Tallnick....
Heartily recommend the Madstad bracket as it is so easily changed.
No bike at present.......

Remove the mirrors and go for a quick ride, it might just be how the new screen channels wind past them? If you were closer I'd let you try my Madstad to see if you want one.

Don't some of the large BMW screens have large holes in them to allow air through and reduce the vacuum effect (which causes random air to be sucked in from different angles, thereby causing buffeting)? Well, that's my theory anyway. Tilting the screen back, allowing air to penetrate from below the screen, seems to be the first option to consider.
