This is my latest +1 . . . . . a little winter project to keep me company in the garage over the winter :lala:, but only after I've serviced Big Bird once she's off the road for the winter
-
Keep the pictures coming in for this one love these projects people do.

Great bike .. :thumb:

They are a lovely reliable bike, not as fast as the 650 strom, but a delight to ride all the same. :thumb:

Thanks for the comments folks. I't my 2nd 600 Alp - sold the last one over 5 years ago and saw it for the 1st time since then just last weekend when it was in getting it's MOT. It kind of re-kindled a fondness I have for the old 600 V engine
Finally got the usb's sorted on the computer and downloaded the piccies I took - the one above is from the advert . . .

Most of the time, when I'm stripping, cleaning and sorting older machines I don't take a camera into the garage with me. But on this re-furb I just might :icon_wink:
Glad I stole the bosses car for the trip to see the bike. My 1st encounter this winter of this stuff

I'm a Honda V-Twin fan. Looking forward to reading this.
I was looking for an NTV or NT or XRV or TA when the XJ600n landed in my lap. Since then I've seen quite a few for sale as reasonable money. Wish I'd held off.
That one look quite tidy from the outside. There's been some ruff ones on the XRV forum and there's an ebay thread with some very tidy ones and some less tidy.
Hope the refurb goes well.
Ps, those who have been here since 2012... can I point out the grass box lol

Moto Agora's finest! Saw quite a few in Greece last year. Mrs Nuts wondered why I chuckled.

Starting from the rear, I have done the following:-
Cleaned, inspected and re-greased all wheel, suspensin and swing-arm bearings
Cleaned and inspected the rear caliper, then fitted new HEL brake line
Cleaned and inspected the rear shocker - will need to ride the bike before deciding if a change is required - spring is still within manufacturers tolerances, but methinks the fluid with the shack could be a bit past it
Changed all spark plugs nd chacked over fuel and ignition system. Will check carb balance once bike nearly fully assembled
All electrical connections checked over and corrosion inhibitor applied
Front instrument sub frame cleaned up and re-sprayed
Front suspension dis-assembled, checked over, re-assembled with slightly heavier oil used on re-build. Lower sections cleaned up and given a fresh coat of paint.
Front and rear wheels checked for corrosion - very minimal, whic is ace on these bikes. all bearings checked and fresh grease applied.
Front calipers given the ame treatment as the rear one - all good.
Lastly - fitted some Heavy Duty crash bars that just arrived today
soon all I'll have left to do is ride it :lala:

Just a few bits on the frame to touch up and maybe get the seat re-covered. Oh, and I need to sort the front grill thingy, now that I've got the engine bars fitted
Then it's ride-it time.

Fine work, and that bike looks lovely, I'm a little jealous! :thumb:
-
A fine job to a nice bike :thumb:
-
Cheers chaps.
Really enjoy breathing some new life into tired machines. This one, being a Honda, has been a real joy to work on (even if it was an Italian made machine). Reckon I was the first too crack a lot of the nuts and bolts since the machine was assembled . . . . . and I only had to drill out 2 snapped ones :icon_wink:

Keep up the good work looking forward to the next project. :thumb:

You have made a fine job of that

Thanks for the kind comments chaps :thumb:
Next project!!!!!! I think the next machine that'll be getting a strip down is youngest sons 650 Strom (non beak version, for the beak-anal amongst the sites users :happydance:).
He's currently able to park his works van within cycling distance of his current abode, so the bike isn't currently getting used, so an ideal time to take it into the garage and give it a good going over.
Gave the Alp a brief road test this morning after sorting the front grill thingy and fitting a dirt deflector infront of the rear shock. All as sound as a pound

Were you on the road to Alford from Tillyfourie this morning? I passed a Transalp while out for a wee run on the V-STROM. Don't see too many on the road these days.
-
Not me - the Alp is orf the road till the salts gone - bad enough keeping one bike running through the salty season :icon_wink:
Did the Cabrach - Strathdon - Tomintoul loop yesterday on the F8GS. Roads just got drier & drier the further into the ride I got. Ace little bimble and a cracking bacon roll at Goodbrand & Ross :happydance:

I wonder if that is still in service. I passed it on a good couple of years ago now.

Gifted meself some Givi pannier frames. Now have the luxury of either these ickle boxes or some adapted Pelicases. Or I could just sling on a set of throw-overs onto the old girl :lala:

And so I come to the end of my oily rag restoration of the old 600 Alp, by finishing the DIY sump guard that I promised myself . . .

Looks good. I like the DIY sump guard, I could do with making one for the Glee :thumb:
-
You made a fine job of that sump guard :thumb:
-
Cheers chaps.
I knocked one up for youngest sons wee strom a year or so ago and it has worked fine. In fact, just this afternoon I've taken it off his bike to give it a fresh coat of paint and to allow access to the sump plug & oil filter. I'll take a photo of it and post that up, if anyones interested.

That'd be great :thumb:

Not my bestest work (you should have seen the 1st attempt - nowt more than a skid plate ), but it does a grand job of keeping hard stuff from hitting the sump, oil cooler and exhaust lower section. Attached to the bottom of the engine via a couple of DIY brackets and a big bit of threaded bar through a mounting point on the bottom of the sump.

I've adapted soe peli cases (see photos attached) and have used them on at least 3 other bikes.
