Looking a tent small enough to take on the Veek (two up) but big enough to stannd up in as we both have bad backs! Mad I know but the B&B's have just got to expensive. Any recommendations. Hopefully not to expensive to.
-
Stand-up tents are bulky and heavy, where will you pack it? Are you leaving the top box off and carrying your
shi essential items in the side cases?
-
Yeah I'll use the panniers for clothing, tank bag for waterproofs and strap the tent, airbed and sleepin bags on the rack where top box usually sits. Put the wife on the back and if I can lift the bike of the side stand we're away!

lol

Vango Turini 200 or the newer version (now it's blue) Tour 200.
I'm 6ft and can just about stand up. 2 man tent with 'garage' you can sit around in and stow your gear in.
-
If it's a 2 MAN tent can porter take his wife ? lol
-
Yes I can as she's just got her hair cut short and now looks like a man! lol thank mr-diver. Seen one on halford web site that might work to, urban escape 3.
-
Plus 1 for the vango turini 200. Lighter by a few kilos than the newer blue tour 200. Good tent for base camping.
-
I have a B&q tent they do a 4 man tent with two bedrooms, and is about 6 foot 2 in the middle and 15kg. for £95.44
-
Apparently this tent is supposed to be very good. A few on the Shadow Crew and HSOCUK are raving about them.

Vango Omega 350, not quite standing upright but nearly. 5kg.
http://www.vango.co.uk/gb/duke-of-edinburgh-recommended/252-omega-350.html
-
I've just spent a week in that Omega 350. Only 4 feet tall at the very highest inside. No good for what Porter wants.
-
Worse thing about the omega 350 that I bought two years ago is the groundsheets are porous and everything got damp.
-
+1 for crap groundsheets. Thinner, lighter and less waterproof than they ever were. Also the "bloke" lol ropes fray at an alarming rate.
-
Yes I bought an Omega footprint which goes underneath to prevent punctures and any dampness. I also always Fabsil before using for the first time. Works a treat. Yet to find a walk in tent that is suitable for motorcycle touring.
Height apart how a tent performs (barring add ons) is often down to the choice of pitch and user error.
-
Yes Flanners but we shouldn't have to. It just proves the groundsheet is NBG
-
I agree Brockett but I wanted space and a lightweight tent for beer money it seems you cannot have it all. The built in groundsheet is very thin thankfully a few forums warned of this and to get a footprint. Tempted by the Turini/Tour though...
-
Vango Turini 200 or the newer version
I agree. It's a good tent. The big issue is fitting it on the bike with the misses on the back.
I tend to use my rear seat and a webbing net to carry it.

It fits nicely in my Givi V47 topbox along with a few other bits.
It won't fit in my old Suzuki (SOFT branded) topbox left over from my Wee.
We bought the mrs another v47 for her bike so either of us can carry it.

Hi all,
My wife and I used a Zephyros 3 Living Tent http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/tents-and-spares/weekend-touring-tents/zephyros-3-living-tent-/ (http://www.terra-nova.co.uk/tents-and-spares/weekend-touring-tents/zephyros-3-living-tent-/) during our trip to France & Spain this summer and it was brilliant.
It is light weight, almost 1.8m high at the peak, has plenty of storage room for gear and it stood up to some very windy and wet conditions as well. I have since bought the ground sheet as well
-
That looks like a nice tent was looking at the specs...good space and low weight
-
Yes, I can recommend a tent
You will get cold and damp otherwise, especially at night
-
I needed a tall tent with some space. I bought an Osaki 3 from Halfords for £100. Haven't used it yet but perhaps bigger and heavier than the OP wanted. Test pitched it and very pleased. I think better than the so-called "motorcycle-garage tents"... and cheaper!
-
don't buy the "New" Vango Turini. I bought one and it's nowhere near as good as the old one. I thought they had just changed the name but no, they had cut costs as well. Fibreglass poles add weight, the groundsheet is cheap and heavy, and the pack size is even bigger. Made a right arse of myself buying it but I suppose it will come in handy if we ever go camping in the car. Sigh. So its back to the Banshee 300 with an added flysheet for us. Sigh.
-
How did you get on with the tent Porter? Considering starting camping myself this year, bb's are a rip off.
I'm very used to the home comforts though, don't want to spend a fortune on kit and then discover it's not for me.
I kind of like the idea of cooking outside though, bacon and sausages in the morning would taste good camped somewhere with great views and 80 or 100 euros extra in my pocket I didn't have to hand over to some bb.
-
I have just bought one of these from gooutdoors. Freedom Trail Sendero 4 Family Tent.
its only for me but I can't stand 2man tent. I'm off to Normandy on the 8 June for 4 days will let you know how it performs.
-
Anybody tried one of these..
https://www.olproshop.com/products/the-abberley-tent
looks decent and pretty spacious, but reviews are mixed.
-
I wanted a tent I could nearly stand up in, so looked around and bought this, used it in the dew at the Wales meet, very happy with it

Vango Galaxy 300 looks like the sort I need. The porch is 190cm high and roomy while the inner tent is lower and smaller. Looks like an ice cream cone.
However it is well named as it costs IRO £300 - ouch!
-
No vstrman I never did get it sorted. We bought a little tent at a sale and used it one weekend but it hurt my wifes back too much and I found the Veek too heavy all loaded up so never used it again! Might dig it out for myself for the TT though.
At easter I paid 180 quid for two nights in a noisy hotel with a cold dried up breakfast so I might use the wee tent more!
-
I bought on OEX Bandicoot 11 on the basis of reviews. I went to go outdoors in Basingstoke where they have a tent warehouse where all the tents are erected so you can see how much room you have. Good prices too
-
FYI Porter, if you don’t mind being out of Douglas, there is free camping available in the Isle of Man, (well you would need a £15 yearly permit) check out Sulby Claddaghs - https://www.gov.I'm/categories/leisure-and-entertainment/camping/
About 0.6 of a mile one way to the Sulby Glen Hotel/pub, about the same in the other direct to Ginger Hall.
Basically it’s a nice field with a toilet, no showers (go swimming in Ramsey).
Bargain.

Anyone using a Vango banshee 300? looks ideal for the bike, says 3 man but I'd say it would be a tight squeeze even with 2.
-
I've got the 200. It's very much a 1 person tent unless you're very friendly with the other person. The 300 will be a 2 person tent.
There's not much storage in them and the height is very low. I can just about sit up but kneeling is not going to happen. The 300 if fractionally taller but not by much.
The banshee gear store adds some much needed storage space and also acts as a small canopy if raining but you will need an extra pole/walking pole to prop it up. It does come with the extra bloke rope and peg.
They are great tents. If I was buying again I'd get the 300 but the 200 was on offer for £72 so I couldn't leave it on the shelf for that.
Not the best of shots but:

Hi hi,
I have found this ultra light tent (around 500g)
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Catoma-Adventure-Shelters-Ground-Sheet/dp/B01MPY3T78
extremely easy set up :
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Catoma-Adventure-Shelters-Ground-Sheet/dp/B01MPY3T78
I think if you want something which you can stand up in, it will take up lots of space and those are 5kg+ usually or very expensive.
-
Thanks mr_diver, still looking, that oex bandicoot II looks good too.
-
Botond, yes it's very light. And no, you can't stand up in it. Its a groundsheet.
-
:text-goodpost: :haha:
-
I use the Vango Halo 200 plenty of room for 1 and all my bike gear not standing height but decent head height around 130cm when getting changed. I like having the 2 side entrance's & normally use one of them for extra storage if I take a lot of camping gear. I have had loads of smaller tents & can honestly say this is the best one up to date and I don't get that claustrophobic feeling you can get with front entrance crawl in types.
-
Sometimes you can't have everything in life. We use the Van go Banshee 300 for our extended trips. It packs right down and takes up very little space (I can fit ALL the camping gear in one pannier due to it's pack size). We can get all the gear we need in it, it has two doors so I don't disturb her on my 5am trip for a wee and its never leaked. Can't stand up in it but I tend to do that mostly outside anyway. Oh and we can just about get dressed in our bike gear in there as well...just...with a bit of effort...and a rest.
-
Another recommendation for the wild country zephyros 3.
I've been going to rallies for years. This is the best tent I can find for weight, pack size, room inside for sleeping, kit storage and limited upright standing, ease of pitching and general quality of materials and price.
It will also stand up to wind and rain with no issues.
It's one of those tents where people come over to see what it is and marvel at the amount of room inside.
Get one.
-
Botond, yes it's very light. And no, you can't stand up in it. Its a groundsheet.
I am pretty sure it's a tent with ground sheet otherwise it would be really expensive groundsheet.... :smirk:
-
Quotes direct from Amazon suggest it's not a tent........

 :angry-banghead: OMG
I do apologise you were right,it is a bloody expensive groundsheet....
I was planing to buy it next week, you have saved me a lot of trouble. :ty:
-
Camping. It's fraught with problems! That could have been an expensive learning experience.
-
I use a Vango Galaxy 200. Two person sleeping area in back plus standing height in front. Brilliant design. Paid 165 quid, but a quality bit of kit.
-
Vango Galaxy 200 - standing room in front, tapering down to two berth lower rear. Pricey at 165 quid but get what you pay for.
-
Another plug for the Wild Country Zephyros 3 Living tent. 4.2kg, standing room (if you're 'normal' height :icon_wink:). Got mine for £160 by shopping around. NOT Sports Direct :icon_no: please

Good find.
Cheaper than my leaky Vango Galaxy.
However it will need a ground sheet for the outer tent to prevent rising damp.
Modern groundsheets are hopeless. They seem to be made out of something breathable to preserve the grass beneath. That allows the damp to rise up make everything inside wet after a few nights. I prefer to buy a cheap "ripstop" tarp and sling it underneath.
-
The Slumit Gobi 3 looks a good buy I think I might give it a try
-
have you thought of one of the newer Tipi tents, they only have one pole. The original quick erect
tent. Peg out the ground sheet and put up the pole in the center.
