A most excellent result, you must be so relieved that you've found the culprit. Electrical defects are the hardest to rectify but also the most satisfying to conquer.

Your self belief should now be on another level now and rightly so.

To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Thanks for the kind words.

About 30 miles of riding later on my first journey after fixing it, the oil filter sprung a hole and p*ssed oil all over the back tyre. I had to limp it about another 10 miles to the nearest bike shop, only to find they don't open on Mondays, then another 3 miles to the next one. Luckily, Pete (diamond bloke) at Hastings Motorcycle Centre had one in stock, and fitted it for me on the spot. He even cleaned up the puddle of oil from in front of his shop and my rear tyre with only a gentle dig about nothing lasting forever as a hint that I should have changed the filter sooner.

I must re-read Zen & the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, and get my attitude right. I had two spare oil filters at home. If I hadn't spent so long on the starting issue I honestly might have changed the oil & filter at the weekend 'cos I saw it was flaking paint when I bought the bike. 20-20 hindsight  :dl_smiley_banghead:

At least in adversity I found a good bike shop close to where I work.
