Unacceptable?
« on: March 29, 2019, 05:25:41 »
So - I took my new Strom in for the recall and thought they might as well fit some heated grips for me whilst the tank was off. £140 later and this is how it was given back to me!

Look at the state of the throttle cable!
1. Looks stupid and upside down
2. Hits the hand guard every time I let off the throttle
3. Doesn't rest in the fully off position as the wire is held by the hand guard
4.Not enough slack left for me to open the throttle fully without it pulling on the grip cable.

When I complained about it, the "technician" came up and said - well its fine, it would hit the tank otherwise if I put it the right way (I have risers so it would clear the tank by about 3 inches... ) and they work...after 10 mins of "discussion",they tried to take it off and put it the right way but the grip glue had stuck and they couldn't do it without damaging the throttle tube so now it has to go back for a new throttle tube and grip to be refitted. I was also told by the parts bloke that "another "technician" said that's the way they would fit it too.
Well...I won't be going back to this "main dealer" again.

OR.....am I wrong and this is an acceptable way to fit heated grips?

Name them.

By not doing so it throws suspicion on every dealer in the area.

I can't see your video, but from what you write I would say yes you are right to make a fuss and insist they do it properly.
If they don't fix it to your satisfaction you should take it up with Suzuki GB.
If you don't want to name names just reveal their post code.

This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

That does sound very wrong, just name them, see if you can get your video up.

Sorry folks. Not sure why The video isn't working! It's just a YouTube one I uploaded.
I will try again!

The dealer is in Rochdale.
You would think I had learned my lesson...it went for it's second service last year, after setting off I thought "this feels a bit funny...what's that clicking noise"

Drove another few mins to see if it would settle down but it didn't change. Pulled over got off the bike and had a look.
They'd only left the f*****g HT lead disconnected from the front cylinder!!!!! (Couldn't just pop it back on as I'm sure many of you know, it's in a reet awkward bloody place behind the radiator). Rode it back, low and behold the mechanic had buggered off home!!!

Luckily a man with very bendy arms managed to get it back on.  :groan: :icon_exclaim:

Oh...and a two month wait(or was it 3?) for a restricted ECU when I first bought it, they gave me a free service for that though so I didn't mind at the time.
Thinking back, I'm not particularly convinced the service would have been done well anyway haha!

OH!! AND....I forgot to mention it took them 4 hours to do the recall work and fit the grips when I was told 45 mins for each.  ###

Yep, I'm fed up with the chaps around here. Only place left I trust is shorrocks in Preston! (Good lot they are!) But I've not been there in about 18 months so it might have changed.

I wonder if Bolton kawasaki/Suzuki is Any better?

It's always hard routing heated grip wires,  especially on the throttle side with hand guards.
I would have routed the wires underneath and left slack for the throttle movement.
Take it back and throw a few swear words at them.  :icon_batterup:

I really expected more from you kwackboy, the "Technician" is clearly an early adopter for the speed limiter regulations for 2021.

Cut your losses Nathan take it to the Giant in Whitworth, pay him in pies and gravy.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

The official Oxford YouTube video shows the grip position in the pic below as the rest point when the throttle is closed. Not sure how that woukd work out with hand guards though...
