why are bike batteries so expensive

wanted for my GS650 the shop tried to charge me £100
I found a company on the internet selling batteries for my GS for £38 including p+p
called tayna, anyone else heard of them.

Not heard of them.
I used to get the odd battery off Ebay but now either get them from Platinum batteries on Trafford Park, Lancs. I collected myself, they were really helpful and the batteries that I've had for my bikes have been between £20 and £30.
There is also Manchester auto electrical, Duncan street, Salford. They do batteries and alternators.
Good prices but if they haven't got it in stock they'll tell you it'll be in this afternoon. That's because I think they're buying it in from Platinum batteries.

Try MDS batteries. I was once quoted £80 for a Yuasa for my wee, MDS were £32.50 delivered for the same battery.

Its also worth trying amazon, like mr_driver I was quoted a high price for a yuasa battery but ended up paying around £40 for the same thing.

I search by part number rather than application. Motorbike batteries prices are inflated, same battery but listed for a lawn mower was 30 quids cheaper. Save your quids.

Had similar issues with the CBX 250 I had, crazy money for a battery.
So I bought a gel type battery from Farnell Electronics for about £12 and modified the battery holder with a cut & weld here and there.

It's easy to 'go here' or 'go there' for a battery but it must be capable of taking the charge from your bike, have sufficient capacity and usually fit the compartment.

Like most have said motorcycle batteries can be cheap and perfectly suitable for it's proposed use. With all bike products prices will vary enormously depending on where you buy it from: dealers, parts and accessories company, on line or even garden equipment/garden centres. Don't be fooled by a cheap priced item on line if you have to pay a considerable sum to have it sent/delivered....that's the real price to you.
