Yet another screen creation.
« on: June 29, 2020, 12:21:48 »
Following my ride the other week on the the now ex Rusty Glee and my subsequent lusting after an even better screen deflector I became creative.

Rusty had a full width screen spoiler which worked very well, my mediocre spoiler came a pitiful second.

I decided an up-grade was needed.

Just for clarity, I actually DID make this one.

I started off by removing the screen and traced around the top 100mm or so onto some card. I carefully cut out the card to make a template, then placed the template over a piece of 3mm acrylic and cut out the shape using a jig saw with a fine blade. I smoothed out the edges using 500, 800 and then 3000 discs on a foam pad on a drill.

Shaping was done by using Bucket's food bin (the bin has the same contour as the old spoiler) and a hot air gun.

I fitted it using the same MRA hinges as the old screen. It looks much better just for just being the same colour, tomorrow's road test to Boston will decide whether or not I've wasted my time.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Top fabbing!
Mine would have been the Dali version after hot air gun time.

The trick with the hot air gun is to only heat the acrylic until it burns your fingers.

If for example you wore welding gauntlets to enable more heat, your carefully crafted creation turns milky white and floppy. Your dog's food bin will also start to melt. Then you have to start again....

Top deduction there Brockett, helmet shopping tomorrow.

They have balaclavas for testing helmets but some are quite small so might be a good idea to take your own. And just so you know the coffee/butty wagon IS CLOSED so take your own  :thumb:

Cheers Paul, my Post Office blagging disguise kit is already in my topbox. I read on their facebook page that the cafe thing was shut so picnic again for me.

I have been contacted by a friend from the South (he says North/East Essex) and we're meeting up there, anyone else care to join us?

I can report the latest screen to be a success. The wind noise has been reduced significantly which was my goal.

It was great to catch up with Brockett, he was on his rather delicious RS 900. The fit, finish and design is a credit to Kawasaki. Personally I think it equals if not exceeds some Hondas.  :)

I did buy a lid.https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/421553

In other news, I had a wonderful "B" road route to Boston. Lincolnshire really does have some epic roads.
I was also fortunate to spot a Red Kite about 5 miles from home and saw a Lancaster low level flying around Coningsby.   :lala:

Update us on the lid once you've had it a while... that's the lid I was leaning towards before lockdown  :thumb:

:happydance:  it has been a splendid day in the saddle. Super nice meet up with TLP and Ian MC. I took a detour on the ride home to visit a friend in Harleston and arrived home with an extra 273 miles on the clock. Cobwebs and lockdown blues brushed away for a while.

:shy: oooops totally forgot to mention Ian being present  :shy:

There will be a brief update on my totally unbiased update on m new lid. So far so good, the major issue mentioned with the early helmets (chin strap too far rearwards) has been addressed. I suspect it will take some time to acclimatise myself to the visor release and shade drop down buttons.

It is very light.

The B1202 from Market Rasen to Bardney is epic. No scenery, not much traffic and decent tarmac. The same goes for the B1190 from Bardney to Horsington, though I turned off to head through Stixwould to Woodhall Spa on Moor Lane.

Proper Bomber country.
