2005 DL650 Delkevic 320mm Tri Stainless Exhaust
« on: May 06, 2022, 11:32:21 »
Delkevic 320mm Tri Stainless Exhaust (Product Code: KIT12FK) for £179.99 Inc. Delivery.

Just thought I would share some photos of this exhaust on my bike. Perfect fit, tight clearances but all good and once the old exhaust was off easy to install. It is a lot louder, not hooligan just a nice deep rumble tone when at idle. You can certainly hear it now when on the move, I've always used ear plugs so its fine but at least now you know you're not riding a 125. Only issue for me is my Heed bash plate bracket at the rear collides, so I will get a new 5mm stainless bracket made to clear.

I will see how I get on with it, I love the look and shorter can length... but I appreciate the longer the can the quieter. If I get any moans I may look at a longer can, but the system will stay the same so at least it would be an easy change. Considering the price I was given to replace the stock can (17 years old and starting to fail), this is a bargain  :thumb:

That looks very nice.
I keep thinking about changing the exhaust on my Wee, and this is pushing me towards it.
And at that price seems too cheap not to do it.

Let me know what you think regarding the sound and its loudness once you get out on it.

Hi Tiggerbits, yes I will give an update next week after I have spent the week commuting to work on the bike (about 350 miles). I was happy with the stock exhaust, but I was getting leaks around the can section as no matter how well you look after these bikes, 17 years and 31k starts to take its toll. I decided to replace as to buy a new stock exhaust was very expensive and second hand ones (for this age of bike) will be worse than mine.

I did a lot of reading and I know the 450mm can will be quieter, but to me it looks too long. This looks just right, up to 350mm I think looks correct. Hopefully it just sounds loud when compared to stock, but against other bikes it’s probably just normal. I did have Vance & Hines on my SV1000S and they were VERY loud, but I never got moaned at or stopped. So although louder, probably just right.

Thank you Asmith61, I just have bad OCD and wish I could not keep her so clean. I can’t help myself, but as I have decided to keep her for a few more years I may as well look after her  :thumb:

So had a few hours riding today on a mixture of roads, from the M6 to tiny back lanes and over a couple of fell passes. I always wear ear plugs but on this occasion I didn’t, just so I could properly hear what the exhaust sounds like.

On motorways when you sit at 70, you barely hear the exhaust. There is a slight deep rumble, but not intrusive. On the back roads it is a lot louder than stock, but not antisocial. Under gentle acceleration it’s subtle, but under hard acceleration it does resonate… you will be heard but it’s a good rumble not a scream (if my analogy makes sense).

Overall very happy with this system and at the price it’s very good. I will see how I get on with it over the coming weeks, will report any issues or change of mind  :thumb:

@graingerblaze That's some great feedback, the type of sound you have described is what I would be happy with.
I have a bandit 600 with a beowulf trioval exhaust, I think its about 300mm can't remember, but that has a very deep rumble and the loudness is find with steady riding. However if I give it some it roars, so does help to have a removable baffle.

I've had Delkevic downpipes on a couple bikes before and there were great quality so I expect the end can would be too.

Again thanks for the info and I have to say your bike looks great!  :thumb:

Fantastic looking bike you have there, I have the same model.

Are you still pleased with your purchase?
Did you manage to fit your engine bash plate with the new exhaust?

Keen to hear your feedback.  Been looking through some of your previous posts, makes for interesting reading some of your modifications

Thank you, my bike is my pride and joy. I have made a new bracket, I will fit it today and post some pictures if it hopefully fitting.

I love the exhaust, I’m still happy with my decision. I have ridden over 500 miles now since fitting and no issues so far, no F1 warnings or quality concerns. I’m getting the same fuel consumption, no noticeable power gains but because of the sound I am holding on to the revs for longer! Nice to hear that V-Twin.

I draw up the new bracket and got it made in 5mm thick stainless, but to keep it looking like the original I had it powder coated. I then applied a cut piece of 3mm shot blast rubber, just as the original so hopefully it looks just as good. The new bracket is 15mm higher to clear the new exhaust pipes, it does mean I have lost 15mm clearance to the road but needs must  :thumb:

Good thank you. The grumble and increase in sound under acceleration did take a little getting use to after the hairdryer quietness of the stock exhaust. However, I wanted to hear the V-Twin and I now enjoy more of the rev range than I did before.

I have covered over 2,000 miles since fitting, mainly commuting to work but some small excursions round the Lake District. I love the sound and wish I made this change earlier. No issues with build quality or finish, exhaust is looking like new still. For the price this system is excellent!

I haven’t had any funny looks from people, so I don’t think it’s too loud. I haven’t ridden without the baffle as I think the sound is just right, I tried without the baffle at home and just thought it was antisocial.

In summary, yes I’m very happy with my purchase and love the sound. There is a titanium version with a carbon tip that would have looked good too, I just saved myself £60 but if you have the extra cash it might be worth going for. Very happy with mine, would recommend if you want a tidy looking system that sounds good.

Great detailed feedback, thanks very much.

Been thinking for a while of a change the stock exhaust is just so quiet.

Definitely food for thought.👍👍

I have a YouTube channel and it’s been a while since I posted a video… I will make a review and try recording the sound at various locations on the bike on different style roads, see if I can make something useful. Most video reviews are people just reving the bikes while stationary, which isn’t that helpful in my opinion. It’s always subjective, the loudness and quality, but hopefully better than a written recommendation  :)

Hi, that would be great.
What's the link to the channel??  Presuming you've done other vstrom videos??

Your right, I've looked a few times for vstrom exhaust sound clips, many of them are pointless, in fact my other half bought a fuel can for her at the time f800r, she heard the sound on YouTube, in reality the exhaust note was nothing like what she'd heard.

A short video of the Delkevic exhaust... very cringe worthy I know but I hope I'm getting better  :shy:

No I don't think this adds any performance, just reduces weight... but I do find myself revving the engine higher as it sounds so much better than the stock can. So I suppose you could say the bikes faster, but only because you give it more beans  :smirk:

Did a comparison for those interested between the 320 Tri-Oval Stainless and the 350mm Oval Carbon Fibre.

Both great options, I do find the 320mm Tri-Oval a little loud on motorways buts it sounds great on back roads. The 350mm carbon is quieter, but still loud enough to be enjoyable on the back roads. I think if you live at 70mph then possibly go for the carbon, but if want to hear the exhaust and avoid motorway cruising the Tri-Oval is a great option.
