DL250 Review
« on: June 21, 2018, 13:13:27 »
we would all be interested in your review of the DL250 over the coming weeks and months  :thumb:
I'll gladly let you know how I get on, albeit with a limited point of view!
2 weeks in and with just under 300 miles under the belt it's barely run in yet.  I did ride the Honda CB500F and CB500X prior to buying 'Stuart'.  No doubt the CB500 series are nice bikes, but heavy for a 'newbie' whereas the DL250 at 180Kg wet is better.  It didn't help that the Honda dealer sent me out for a test ride on the CB500F (which was 12 months only and had 1100 miles on the clock) and at the first corner I almost fell off.  Somewhat shaken I took it around an industrial estate and every time I tried to turn, it was the same, highly unstable and wanting to fall over.  Now it had been 12 years since I last rode a motorcycle, but had ridden a scooter so I could not understand what was going on.  I stopped and inspected the bike and found that the tyres were worn flat!  It must have spent its whole life being ridden in an upright position!  Back at the dealer, there was just a shrug of the shoulders!
The CB500X was how it should have been, smooth, agile(ish) with good power delivery.  However no deal to be done with Honda.
My local Suzuki dealership, Road and Racing Motorcycles in Hyde were a different matter.  Friendly, helpful and informative and more that happy to assist me.  Test Ride on the DL250 and deal done.
Yes, it's low on power and torque compared to the CB500X and the DL650's, but its fun, lightweight, comfortable and economic.  And I could afford it!
It's currently showing 77.9 mpg over a mix of motorway and city riding.  It will happily sit at 70mph on the motorway, but I find 60-65 mph better.  Hand guards and heated grips keep my hands toastie and the screen, although small is enough to give you protection.
Around town it's light and nimble and a joy to ride.

I just have to keep finding excuses to give my wife to get out and have a blast!!

 lol  for Stuart.

Thank you so much for a well written and informative reiew of the DL250. You are, I think the first DL250 owner to post.

Have a "like" from me. :thumb:

Yes, Stuart is better than Stewart in my book!

Thanks for your early report. You could become 'the all knowledgeable one' on the 250........  :thumb:
So how's it going so far then?

Wow! These 250 stroms are everywhere now. Proof that a Vstrom doesn't have to have a V in it. ( Unlike the word reiew,  Mr. Power.)

Saw one first hand on Sunday. Looks good, the headlight may be a little oversize - hence Stuart - and its owner was enjoying it. Not the tallest of gents, or maybe the youngest, but out and about with other real life bikes in the real world and loving it. He'd owned 650 stroms and wanted a smaller lighter bike. Got a good deal with panniers included. We shouldn't write a modern 250c.c. bike off, many people have covered many miles on 250s in the past  and a modern 250 should be a lot more capable than, say, the Super Dream we may be subconsciously comparing them to.

Absolutely Rusty, I bet it's a nice easy bike to live with, if I wanted an adventure bike to also go off road, as maybe one might in the Pyrenees,it would certainly be easier than a 650, let alone the 1000, and it will carry one with luggage, also it will be easy on winter roads,so it gets my vote as a bike worth Suzuki bringing out imo.
