This weekend we've been back to Guerande, the Oh La La Tour venue in June 2016.

It's become the cuckoo camping weekend as a few of the birds call and fly in the tree tops in full view there before mid June when they depart for Africa. We heard them all weekend and spotted quite a few.

Camping again off course.  :thumb:
So how's it going so far then?

Hee,hee,I think cake would have been a little O.T.T.,he couldn’t eat it all anyway,Grindleford Station Cafe is quite cheap on the whole,I had an all day breakfast and a coffee and it was cheaper than a small breakfast at another well know cafe, that starts with a “Y” ,that plate in the picture only cost about £3.50p.We ended up at a well know cafe in Ma***** for a cuppa on the way home, about 80 miles in total today.

I took my bike to hell yesterday. Well actually it was "Hel". They make brake hoses etc for race bikes and for anybody who wants them on their motorbikes, cars etc.  I'm sure you have heard of them as they are one of the leaders in braking systems.

Anyway, my appointment was with a suspension specialist named Steve who had worked with British Superbike teams for years. We had already spoken and he explained to me that there are minimum adjustments to be made on a V-Strom compared to a sports bike but he would set it up to suit my weight and style of riding as far as the adjustments allow.

I put on all of my riding gear and prepared for a work out while he attached a  measuring device to the rear of my bike and a cable-tie to the forks. He lifted weight on and off the front, made some calculations then played with the rear adjustment, counting the number of turns from both extremes before inviting me to sit on the bike with my full weight. Measurements were taken again then I was asked to take all of my weight off which meant me standing on my tip toes. That's where the work out began. I now have even greater admiration for ballerinas. My calf muscles are stronger today. I could have got on and off the bike but it would have taken longer.

It turns out that when I bought my bike used a couple of years ago, someone had played with the suspension and got it as wrong as possible, whatever his weight was. Steve made adjustments then asked me to take a ride on the bumpy twisty road right outside and come back to report my findings.

After a quick ride I was back to report that the feel was different. I now felt more attached as my bike seemed to fit better (if you know what I mean). No more adjustments needed to be made so I paid and left. The usual cost would be £50+ vat but Steve kindly gave me some discount. Steve is very knowledgeable and explained what he was doing and why, well as best he could to a moron.

After leaving I went for a ride to the nearest garage to check that the nail in my rear tyre had leaked no air before I have it repaired on the 17th. My local garage was going to plug it. I found that the nail was gone so must have been a tiny stone stuck in the deep tread (as it was a new tyre) and though it looked like a nail, it was not. The pressure was also spot on, taking into consideration that the tyre was now warm and not cold as it should be when setting pressure.

I then went for a long ride. Wow! I really did notice a difference and wish I had the suspension set up two years ago. Also, a couple of slip roads onto and off the A30 where my bike had previously scraped the ground showed that the rear had been lifted a little because it didn't scrape at all, the road was damp though so it could be that I instinctively wasn't  leaning as much even though I thought I was.

Long story short. I would recommend having your suspension set up properly, it is not too difficult to do it yourself with assistance from someone who can take accurate measurements but for such a low price it's worth having a suspension expert do it.

Just my opinion, take it or leave it but I'm happy I had it done. One other thing, my description of the work he did may not be exact and I might have missed something.

Sorry if I've gone on a little (lot) but you probably speed read this anyway and overlooked the waffle, thank you  :thumb:.

Agreed, best money you'll spend (or not spend if you do it yourself).
The missus rode her Ducati Scrambler for several years on factory settings telling everyone it was a really lively bouncy thing and that the rear ABS cutting in on bumpy tarmac was fairly normal. Turns out factory default on the rear isn't right for her (not) mighty stature, even minimum was a bit too much. She now describes the bike in more sobering and civilised terms :)
It actually slightly shocks (pun intended) me that dealers don't do a quick ballpark setup for new owners, or even test rides. Not only does it transform your impression of the bike you 'might' buy from them, it can be almost unsafe if it's wildly out.
* Biggest mistake I've heard someone say "The previous owner had the suspension fully tuned", great, were they your identical clone ;)

Late decision today. We normally wouldn't go out on a weekend (save the road space for those who work ) but saw that the Lancaster was out & about fairly local so thought we might go & see it.
We rode up to Hardwick Hall & found a nice spot a little north of the hall, on the top a small hill, over looking the valley we hoped it might fly up. We got lucky.  :)

After that we rode across country & finished the afternoon with an ice cream at Monyash. Just short of another 100 miles.  :)

After changing my exhaust to a Delkevic system (details in the exhaust section) I had to make a new rear mounting bracket for my Heed bash plate as the new pipes sit lower than the oem original. I made the new bracket 15mm higher and do lost 15mm of road clearance but it’s worth it to have the bash plate possible again  :lala:

I won a bid on ebay for a Rukka suit, old but in perfect condition. It arrived this morning so I went out for a few hours to try it out. When I stopped for a cup of tea, another biker commented that I must be rich to afford Rukka. I didn't tell him it cost me £36 plus £8 postage. I felt so good then, I got home to watch the last 10 min's of the FA cup and what happened next. Liverpool, Liverpool,Liverpool What a great day.  :happydance:

Yesterday, fitted new brake pads all-round, oil & filter service, airfilter & plugs replaced, checked levels & lubed where required, re-tensioned cleaned & lubed drivetrain, checked chain alignment & all lights.

Today, changed battery for a new Yuasa version & fitted Puig sidestand extended foot. Phew!

Whiterose, sit down and have a cup of tea, you deserve it. You'll feel better next time you ride it knowing it's been well loved in the garage.  :thumb:

Thing is Doc, he can't get out at the moment due to his extremely gravelly drive situation.

I thought he wanted tyres...... :shy:
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Out for a run, needed fuel as blinking at 220 miles. Struggled to find E5, but managed eventually. 63mpg   :)
Will now continue with project adjust madstad bracket & MRA screen to minimise noise.
Currently using bollsen ear plugs, they seem better than custom moulded ones ..... frustrating given the cost, but there is only one way to find out.
May change mirrors to minimise noise too.
But the adventure bike concept and in particular the Vstrom 650 works for me

Took it for a little bumble round the local lanes.
This is the first bike I've had in 45 years motorcycling with an after market exhaust/can. It's nice, not too loud but a good roarty sound....but tell me is it normal that when you go under a bridge or through a tunnel, you have to cog it down 2 gears and rip the throttle open?

I went for a blast this morning and rode for most of the day. On my way home I passed Bovey Tracey, Devon. There were motorbikes everywhere, I think there had been a bike meet and they were all going home. I sped past and a couple of miles up the road I came up behind three bikes. The one at the back was something like a Harley and although it sounded good, it was blowing my ears out so I passed them. Further up the road I came up behind about eight bikes. I knew I wouldn't get passed them all because we were on twisty roads and they were riding very close together so I followed. The bike at the back was a Kawasaki 600 and had a very, very loud can. The rider loved it and was always in at least one gear too low so his bike was howling. I kid you not, my ears were close to bleeding. I had to pull in and let them and the first group of riders I had passed go.

I'm not against a raspy exhaust, in fact I quit like them but why do so many bikers think that making more noise than 10 jumbo jets is okay? The same riders would probably kick off if cars went passed with radios blasting. Rant over, I had to get that off my chest.  :dl_hyperhysteria:
