Title: Airhawk seat pad.
Post by: porter on June 11, 2018, 17:05:19
Hi all. What type or style of airhawk cushion fits a vstrom ( riders seat)? There are cruiser, sport etc pads and small, medium and large too. Best fit for a 14 Veek.
I've had two seats now, shad comfort and an oe Suzuki tall seat but still I get this tail bone pain. Comes on about 100-150 mile mark. Thought the tall seat would sort it but its no better really so was thinking about an airhawk.

Seriously try a bit of dead sheep...

Not a leg of lamb.
A bit of sheep skin rug.

I got 2 'bike seat covers' from LambLand.co.uk
About £20 each. Makes a world of difference and doesn't feel like I'm floating on a lilo like the AirHawk things.

After a long ride last weekend the sheep skin rug option looks great - how did you fix it in place?

Sewed a little adjustable strap on it that goes under the seat.
I've had one on all my bikes at some point.

Makes a huge difference.
I brush it from time to time.

Cheers - I get the needle and thread out (and buy SWMBO a gin and tonic).

Sheep skin is tough. You'll need a decent needle and a thimble too.

I might try Tony Archer to get the seat reshaped with more padding, thinking of going for the corbin style, likely wait now to have it done over the Winter.

Yep  said before, this chap is the business.  Sorted out a Bandit 1250 Seat for me. Was an instrument of torture then became a wonderful thing.  Give him a bell, worth doing over winter for sure. :)

Never mind the seat.. surely there must be a market for inflatable pants..?
(And surely it’s not just me, is anyone surprised ‘mr_diver’ is recommending a furry seat cover.?).

One day I may take all those comments personally  :icon_batterup:

But seriously the sheep skin works wonders. But it does need a brushing now and again... you know you got to treat your sheep right  :icon_wink:

lol. Nowt personal diver. I sem to remember something about the lanolin being removed from the black-dyed pads, rendering them a bit soggier in the wet? maybe you can put lanolin back into them though? I can't remember

Water runs off mine mostly. But leave it in the rain and it will get soggy. You can retreat them.

Can't remember from which site the link comes from, but I made a note as it looked like a cheap solution to try: https://putnams.co.uk/products//inflatable-stadium-seat-cushion

Colin, if you're thinking of cycling shorts, the same designer has made motorbike specific ones called Moto Skivees.  Here's a link on ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/I/122401510735?chn=ps&var=422876545005

I have some of the special pants referred to. The do make a noticeable difference to the numb arse issue for the slender behind brigade. They do not induce Betty Swollocks, in fact they do a very good job of keeping things in place and moist free. :)

Yes they are pricey, but half that of the Air Hawk or SW Mowtech equivalent, and no one can nick them when your no with the bike, like they  can with the inner bladders of the others.

I've got cycling shorts & a pair of motor skiveez, I'd say the £10 cycling shorts work just as well.

£21.95 seems good value. I find the idea of these intriguing but I'd want to try one out first before buying.
