An old thread I know, but an important lesson that many may still learn the hard way, hence the thread bump.
If one has to make use of the center stand, may I suggest that you invest in a velcro type strap system, to tie up the front brake lever to the grip. If the front wheel can't rotate (DIY handbrake), the center stand should hold. There have been cases where a little forward movement would allow some of the stands brands to allow the bike to fall.

This should prevent any forward movement, that may allow the stand to fold up.
