That makes sense. The leverage afforded by the length of the stand whilst aligning the hole must be easier than pulling on the spring direct. Less finger-trappy, too.

Yep!  :fix: that's what I thought I'd do, but    :icon_no: Yamaha ha ha ha ha scuppered that. The top leg of the stand through which the bolts are mounted, fits in between two plates on each side welded to the frame. Very well supported but there is no way of inserting the stand other than lined up with the slots and perfectly straight. But thanks for the suggestion.

This morning started with a Toby breakfast ( started eating it before took picture 🤣)
Then home to fit the quad lock phone holder ( a Christmas present )
Then out for a ride through some b roads around Essex, stopped to take a few pictures.  Including the one with the heard of dear ( must have been 50 plus sorry about picture quality long way away )
I stopped off to see my brother in the Dementia home he is in as he is 73 today ( sadly he has no idea it is his birthday ☹️ ) I visit him every 2 weeks it is sad to see the poor people that are in there.
It was a lovely Ride only about 70 miles on nice dry roads.

I've had a rather busy day on the bike today. After meeting my mate Matt at Morpeth, we headed North through Wooler before stopping in Milfield at the fabulous Cafe Maelmin. A bacon butty and a coffee was the order of the day and there were already a gaggle of bikes there when we got there. After our very nice brekkie we continued North over the border and through Coldstream, turning off just afterwards for Kelso. From Kelso we took the road to St Boswells and then continued on to Selkirk and a splash of fuel. We then headed South towards Hawick and onto the A7, heading South towards Longtown. We decided to call into Gilnockie Tower to be all historically interesting and it turns out to have a very small, but pleasant tea room. It's the ancesteral home of the Armstrong Clan and the only clan member to walk on the moon was actually there in 1972!
After a refreshing cuppa we headed through Newcastleton and around Kielder Reservoir, stopping off on the dam for a picture. After Kielder we cut over the Otterburn Moors to Rothbury and more tea. From Rothbury it was a relatively short run home through Netherwitton. A belting day out and another 210 effortless miles on the tigger. After a good bit of soapy love it was out with the front wheel, ready for a new set of boolers to be fitted tomorrow

Checked over the Varadero, a sort of pre-MOT check as it's booked for next Saturday.

De-greased and oiled the chain.
Washed it, polished it.

Toped up the oil, she has always liked a bit of oil but this use the last of the bike oil I had.

Service needed in a few weeks anyway.

can't wait for a bit of good weather and a day off to enjoy a ride.

Needed to do a bit with the Honda 125. This all started with drilling a couple of holes in the lift table to take the hooks of safety straps. I've been meaning to do that for a good few years. With the bike secured with straps I removed the rear wheel to clean the swing arm the brake caliper etc. The chain has been regularly sprayed with chain wax and the whole of the rear end of the bike is caked in it. It took over four hours to clean the wheel and reassemble it. Next job was to strip off the remaining paint from the left side engine case, clean up with wet and dry,  mask up all but the target and then spray a couple of coats of Upol etch primer and later two coats of aluminium paint.
And then I noticed the oil on the fork stanction which may indicate a seal failure. Uuurgh!
Never mind rain is forecast everyday until the end of the month so I'll not miss any riding.

Today, I dropped the front wheel off at Stakeford Tyres to get my new AT41 fitted. While the front wheels out, it's given me a chance to clean up the fork bottoms, which look like new still. Note, Brembo calipers supended by tie wraps and not just left hanging...

Both wheels back on, all torqued up, pressures set & ready to go ! Having a single sided swinging arm makes wheel removal childs play. Litterally seconds to remove or refit. It takes longer to find the correct socket than it does to remove the wheel...

Yes, a few dull miles to get them scrubbed in. They have a lot of 'spikes' on them, very odd.

Those little nobly bits are there to prove you use all of the tyre but it will take a few miles on the road to ware the edges out. fun though.

0900 Took the XJ600 to town for an MOT which it passed. Sat for an hour or so on the sea front watching a container ship being very slowly unloaded over at Felixtowe. Clear patches of sky and a nice warming sun. Then rode up to meet some friends at Grumpys where is was overcast and very much colder. Home by 1730  having covered 143 miles. Next little job is to replace the clutch friction plates and release bearing. Just like Lego for grown ups or in my case a groan up.

I had a quick bimble out to scrub in the new tyres. They have a very different feel to the old Bridgestones that came off, but I've got used to them. They do have a bit of road noise at certain speeds (75/76mph is very loud) but are quite civilised really. Happy so far  :thumb:

MOT day for the Varadero - Clean pass

And somehow I managed to get lost leaving JT's Swansea, which I've been to many times before, and found myself in the Landovery eating a custard slice and drinking some hot chocolate

First proper ride of 2024 - 100 miles done, bike covered in bugs  :auto-dirtbike:

Sorry no pictures of along the ride, too busy enjoying the quiet roads and some sunshine after a loooong wet winter - but here's a picture of the custard slice.

F8GS is having its post winter clean and service, so it's time for the NC to do the miles . . . just 90 sunny ones today.
Brew on Grantowns old bridge . . .

As I took the 1st picture, this little critter crawled out of a crevice in the bridges block work . . .

I think it's a Pipistrel. As I opened my oat snack bar, the rustling of the wrapper was enough for the little beasty to crawl back into its hidy-hole. Very one-expected treat on a sunny Sunday afternoon in Grantown.
