Title: Club bespoke radiator & oil cooler covers
Post by: cymarceng on September 10, 2009, 16:24:50
Hi All, have not had the time to sort out a proper presentation yet but I just wanted to let everyone know that the bespoke stainless steel covers I have designed specifically for all members are now completed! Andy has received the images and I would like to think that following his approval he will post them for all to see. Personally, I think they are fantastic. Anyway, I hope to have further details posted once I have received any guidance from Andy them we can talk membership discount on volume orders.

I am very happy to fit free of charge if you want to have a rideout!

Best regards, I have enjoyed doing them for you and I am looking forward to the visit by a member tomorrow.

Mark at Cymarc.

Is it only for V-stroms? :P

They are most attractive but there's a lot of restriction for airflow, especially the oil cooler cover. And in summertime when giving the Vee some stick I notice how hot she gets when you drop into a 30 zone and the fan comes in pretty quick, fine on a soft and enjoyable pootle but not when upsetting power rangers.  :haha:

The mudguard extender is to me the most essential piece of kit, you can see how effective it is when coming to clean the bike, the oil rad isn't touched therefore protected,

Like I said, they look great but for me personally I want better airflow not restricted even more, but that's just a humble opinion :thumb:

Yep, thoroughly understand your concern - really do. An even more restricted cover was tried out for 2 weeks during the blazing summer we had (remember?) with no reports of overheating however the bike was not given a good spanking I.e. it was ridden normally. The covers have been tested albeit by a friend of mine who now happens to be a member so I would encourage some communication with him to put to bed any fears over overheating - it is not for me to state his employment but I can say that he will always give a truthful assessment.

If he picks up on this thread I am sure he will comment.

Nonetheless, I still understand any and all concerns and, sincerely, am keen to develop the product to the happiness of all.

blokes, as Andy has mentioned, qty will dictate price - I could go in at the evilbay price (fair as it is) but with some `getting together` I can reduce the price for you.

Just let me know, ideally via Andy because I feel he is the best person to co ordinate it all.

Post by: cymarceng on September 10, 2009, 18:31:35
They are grade 304 mill finish (then finished by hand) stainless steel. I have no idea if they will fit the 650 - all depends if the rad and cooler are the same. A member (Al) is visiting the factory tomorrow with a 650 and we will see. I am sure he will report to all. as an idea sets like this go for around £60 but I am hoping to bring this down quote a chunk if I can get the numbers up despite them being `bespoke` (the £60 sets are the mass produced jobbies, not the bespoke ones for you blokes).

Hope this helps.

blokes, while I have your attention you may also be interested in this spacer I have designed - once again it has been tested on a 1000cc Strom and returned an instant improvement on gear changing. It is on evilbay and is item number 110433066289.

Even if you do not wish to purchase any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I'd be up for a ' posted' pair of these for a 650, again according to price but less than £60 seems good.
Title: Re: Club bespoke radiator & oil cooler covers
Post by: Sven on September 10, 2009, 20:59:53
I was looking for some of these about 3-4 months ago & struggled to find any for a 650 (they are different to the 1000). Ended up buying off ebay from a German company (think the name was Rotamech or something like that) -otherwise I would have been interested in buying these.
One thing I would mention is that I had problems fitting the rad guard. The top edge of the guard (edge of metal & therefore sharpish) rubbed on the two brake pipes which go over the radiator. These pipes are, I believe, for the ABS so this would not affect any non-ABS bikes. I was not happy to leave it like this so had to take hacksaw & 2lb hammer and do some gentle adjustment to the guard until I was happy that it wouldn't cut through the brake pipe eventually.
Must say that I like the design these ones better than the ones I've got :GRR: ....... but they're a few months too late for me.
As a last note I haven't noticed any over-heating problems since fitting mine.

Sven, many thanks for your comments especially about overheating. The edges on my covers have all been `hand finished` - bloody expensive to do but results in a lovely `curved` edge. My original CB1300 cover was sharp like yours which is why I remade one for myself and hand finished it resulting in the very nice `quality` feel. If you are ever passing and want me to `finish` your guards off I will do it free of charge so you can see what I mean.

Yep, good to hear from local members - if you are willing to travel to me to help me develop stuff for your bikes I will try to make it worth your while with free bling, coffee and a look round - everyone seems to be impressed to see a quarter of a million pounds worth of german laser technology at full tilt (we do actually use it to do things other than bike parts   ).

By the way, the gear change enhancer looks like it fits the 650 variant!

Hi All

I am the bloke who has been doing Marks testing for him and just to give it some provinance , I have some Rider qualifications as well as mechanical expertise.

I am an I.A.M trainer,Bike safe trainer,ROSPA (GOLD), Police Advanced class 1 on road and off road, Some city and guilds quals in construction and use as well as prohibition. I have over 20 years of riding experience on a vast array of machines from off road 125 up to Kawasaki 1400. I cover about 20k a year on a bike doing a huge mixture of rural and motorway and sometimes usually once per year somewhere on the continent.

I have tried both sets of the Rad and oil  covers covering two weeks of moderate to hard riding during our last heat wave and did not have any issue with overheating. I stuck in town for an hour on one of the days just to try and get it to overheat but once the fan kicked in it was fine. I am not using the covers with the bigger holes but haven't had a problem with either though if you feel there is an issue then go for the larger holes.

Not only do they offer fantastic protection that will never rust but they look great  and really make your machine stand out.

I have also tried the spacer after carrying out some research which I will share for the benefit of the forum. 20 Year Suzuki DEALER TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM HOWEVER AS A CHAIN (TYPE DEPENDENT IE STANDARD, O RING) with rigorous maintenance should last between 20-40k and at that time you should also change your sprockets ( sorry if I'm teaching you to suck eggs ). Suzuki class this as FAIR wear and Tear therefore  never bothered to try and rectify or fleet recall the machines. I personally had never noticed a problem and as this is the 3rd Suzuki I have owned, I  assumed that it was a characteristic.

However once the spacer was fitted you could have knocked me off the bike with a feather,I could not believe the difference, no more clunk ,even when you engage first gear on idle there is barely a sound. All changes much smother. Tried it on Motorway, rural roads and a little bit of off road ( only about 10 miles ) also tried  gear changes with and with out clutch still sweet as a nut. This will have the added effect of extending my chain and sprocket life as well as rear Tyre and also make the bike even more economical to run  ( albeit negligble ).

Hope  this helps

I am interested in the Rad cover if it fits a 650
What I still haven't seen is if the sprocket spacer is needed[ for the 650 as it is a very different engine. Is the misalignment only a DL1000 problem? I can't say my gear change is very clunky.

Should be nearly topside of the 650 variants by the weekend................

Hi there - the prices are already on the forum if you want to take a look - I would put them down again here but I cannot remember - please don't think this is a reflection of a poor businessman who has only been doing this for a couple of weeks - far from it, I have been in business for nearly 20 years but regretfully these parts are not my core business, rather something I am simply proud of hence the `unfocused` view on the commercial side of it all!

Who else would offer free fitting!

If you cannot find the price list give me a call and I will dig it out for you, gladly!

Sounds good to me so I'm in if the price is right

Anyway, here is an update and an answer to most of your questions:

1. The 1000cc rad and oil cooler cover WITH YOUR CLUB LOGO ON THEM (as per the photo on the recent post) are available NOW!
2. The radiator cover is priced at £38.99 + £8 p&p.
3. The oil cooler cover is priced at £15 + £3 p&p
4. Both will cost £52.99 + £9 p&p
5. I anticipate that the 650 variants will cost the same

>>>>>>>>blokes, for bespoke designs at qty`s less than many thousands this is a very good price if you did not already realise<<<<<<<<<

6. And no, I am not doing this for entirely commercial gain!
7. I anticipate that the 650 variant will be designed, prototyped and ready for testing in about 10 working days if I work all night (Andy!).
8. If anyone wishes to test the 650 variants for me and willing to travel to my factory (http://www.cymarc.co.uk (http://www.cymarc.co.uk)) they will get the covers at half price.
9. The next parts will be the chain guard and brake reservoir covers, all in hand finsihed stainless and bearing your club logo
10. And no, at this time I have no idea of the price!
11. The 1000cc gear change enhancer does fit the 650 and at some point `Al` is going to test it to let us know if it does the same on the 650 as it does on the 1000cc (see report below).
12. And yes, I will fit EVERYTHING free at the factory because I like doing it for club members.
13. the gear change enhancer will be £19.99 to club members + £3 p&p
14. All my stuff is sent by tracked and/or special delivery so that I know you blokes will get it.
15. I need a donor bike to design a top box plate extension - if anyone needs one and is willing to travel to my factory they will get it at half price if I can make one.
16. as yet I have no intention to look at sump guards but I may in the future.
17. Any postage outside of mainland Britain will, of course, cost a little more.
18. All cheques must be made payable to Cymarc Engineering - address on website.

Hope this helps, if I have missed anything then please say.

Hi geezer, sorry you feel like sh*te - how was the bling? I am chuffed Dave got it to you (thanks for the dosh) and it was somewhat hurried when he visited (I have made a recent post which makes for good reading) so I did not get to gibber as much as I wanted.

I need to know about the fitment and your comments - you have the first production model and I think we can always improve with constructive critisism. To date everyone has been kind enough to near `whack off` over the stuff (to be fair it is good tackle when compared to most of the shite out there) but I would not be such an arse that I would think that everything I do is perfect!

Mark.

Title: Possible mod needed on initial 650cc rad covers
Post by: cymarceng on October 05, 2009, 13:53:13
Hi blokes, check out the following email sent to Andy. All covers after this date will have had the mods carried out. mega sorry for any inconvenience.

Andy, I had a 650cc in just after I had sent your 650cc cover to you.

I had to carry out two modifications to get the cover to fit as well as the 1000cc puppies. I don’t know if you will have to do it to yours but here is the lowdown…….

Firstly, there is a small black fastening clip which fouls the bottom lip located on the lower edge of the cover – it does not stop the cover being fastened but it’s not right as it pushes the cover out by a couple of mm`s.

To sort this all you have to do is take a file to the edge and gently relieve it around the area where the black plastic clip goes.

Secondly, when looking at the grill from the front of the bike the right hand slot may need extending down by a few mm`s to allow the fastener to pass through into the rad cover – you’ll see what I mean when you get it nearly in position. Once again a little work with a file (or dremel) will sort this.

I will be modifying the drawing to accommodate this for all future covers and I will post this on the forum as I have already sold another 650cc cover and the member might have the same trouble I had earlier this morning.

If, of course, you cannot work a file I`ll send you another one (cover, not a file).

Mark Hooton.

Title: Re: Club bespoke radiator & oil cooler covers
Post by: cymarceng on October 05, 2009, 16:47:40
Stu - I really am not sure. Due to the problems I was getting on aquiring donor bikes I copied the fastener positons off an existing cover which I purchased off ebay from Germany.

This seemed to have worked until I got in a members 650 today and the small black plastic clip was pushing on the lower bend and also one of the holes where not lining up.

It could have easily been an issue with his bike, specifically. I really don't know. Nonetheless the cover was modified to fit as perfectly as the 1000cc version and I alerted club members to this problem.

I have only sold 4 650cc grills so far (I only finalised the design last week). 1 to Andy (went out today but I`ve emailed him to this potential problem), 1 to you, 1 to the member today which I modified and 1 to a member in Canada which I also managed to modify before DHL turned up.

It might not be a problem but if it is I need to let people know, all others made from today incorporate the modifications so it should not be a problem moving on. If you have a problem then contact me, you know I`ll put it right.

Regards,

Mark.

Mark,

Just a word to thank you for the supply and fitting of the radiator and oil covers to my DL650x
yesterday.

It was well worth the round trip from Blackpool. They really look smart and I would cetainly recommend  them to all and sundry.

As I had the day of work I returned home via Robins Hood bay and the dales,  it maybe my  imagination but I think the covers make the bike go faster ???

Keep up the good work because others would not.

I'de just like to say a big thankyou to mark for blinging my bike up with the top quality merchandise he's producing at his factory. He's a true gent who it seems is making the v-strom.co.uk products for for no profit !
Any members who's thinking of buying anything of mark I'de say get in there fast before he's swamped with orders.

p.s. if you visit his factory be prepared to make your OWN coffee with powdered milk :sarc:

pps he's got a very good sense of humour

Just got my rad & oil coolers from Mark today, truly excellent products. I also invested in a rear sprocket spacer at the same time, I've yet to fit it but I'll let you know what I think once it's done.

Thanks Mark. (P.S sell the GS and get a proper bike).

Cheers Mark, top gear.

I've had a similar issue with my rad cover, although it was nothing my cheap-as5 dremel copy couldn't solve

OK I'll not win any awards for my 'straight' lines or the finish, but it slotted in fine-o afterwards :-)

Stu, if you have the Mark 2 (I have no idea as I am drunk most of the time) it should fit no problems  :thumb: if it`s the Mark 1 it may foul on a tiny bit of plastic so you can either relieve it or come back to me and I`ll sort it for you. I really do think you have got the Mark 2 as I think I only sold a couple of the Mark 1`s before I spotted it and sorted it.

It's the bottom edge - where that little rubber flappy thing is, the far side needed adjusting. It'll be obvious if it'll need doing or not once you slide it into place.

Title: Bling update
Post by: cymarceng on October 21, 2009, 20:47:49
Hi all, I am currently working on some stainless frame guards - what I have in mind already gives me a chubby on   so I hope you lot are impressed.

At this time I can tell you they will be made to fit the 1000cc strom, in stainless (of course, anything else is cheap and shitty), hand finished by yours truly and cheaper than any other sh*te on the market.

I intend to anchor them off the rear square section frame bolt anchor and rear brake cylinder (left and right respectively).

I expect it to take another week but I will keep you posted.

After which the next on my list is the screen tilt and turn bracketry!

By the way, I am being `courted` by other marque owners to do their bikes but my loyalty currently remains with you blokes `coz you`ve been the most supportive of my work so far - well done and thanks.

Get horny blokes, won`t be long now.............

Post by: cymarceng on October 22, 2009, 07:07:59
Hi Sven, I simply cannot get hold of a donor 650cc for long enough to develop one. I had my fingers burnt when I tried to develop a rad grill for the 650 in the 3 hours Rob from hull allowed me to keep the bike - what a disaster! Poor Andy got the first off and it didn`t shagging well fit!

My gear should and does simply `slip on` because I have spent what feels like years developing it to do so - I really do not feel comforatable about guessing or rushing or not testing to get it right.

it`s still on my list to do, I just need someone kind enough to let me have their bike for a few days.

I am really sorry but this is the reason! If I can get Rob from Hull to help me out (or any other near members?) then I`d be so chuffed to do a bracket my head will drop off in glee!
Title: Latest Bling of Lurve
Post by: cymarceng on October 23, 2009, 16:49:17
Kids, here it is - the latest Love Bling from my demented mind   . It`s the frame protectors I have been gassing on about for long enough - obviously the novelty will wear off shortly but I would have posted them sooner but I couldn`t leave myself alone long enough to type anything. Anyway, they are dead sexy, protect the frame (you can see scuff marks on the frame which they will now stop) made from 2mm thick stainless and give me the horn. The RH one also replaces the OE rear brake master cylinder cover. Price wise they are up for £39.99 on fleabay but to members they`ll be a lot cheaper of course - £29.99 sounds about right. I was looking for some for my R1200GS but they are over 100 shagging pounds so you know what I`ll be making next, eh? F*cking rip off and they aren`t even stainless nor hand finished by a loon like me.

Anyway here are some images including one of me new R1200GS which I bought after a) having a ride on me mates Strom 1000 and b) because I could cos I`m loaded

By the way, Rob from Hull, you pay double  :neen: (only joking)

By the way, had a geezer come up for a rad cover on his CB1300 (I have got one of those as well) and his bike is on the left of this piccy - you`ll see the same rad cover - this is what I am doing for the Honda boys.

Well, ride safely, take it easy and don't forget that you are always welcome to pop into my factory for a tour (apart from Rob from Hull   )

don't know mate - what do you think? The obvious are reservoir covers coz they are easy to do but I can do other more difficult stuff (if I can stay sober long enough) like rad covers etc.

I`ve already necked a bottle and a half of good southern Rhone red so I canot think too straight at the moment (woohoo) but stay in touch - funnily enough kwaks are very close to my heart, more so than Honda - I`ve owned a GPZ1100 (wish I`d kept it), RX1000 (mmmm) and a GPZ600 (f*cking horrible) during my biking days so I would be happy to look into whatever I could do for a GTR.

Regards, Mark.

Yeah, I love my babies too.

No, as I explained on a recent post - I need a donor 650 to f*ck around with to get it right. Last time I `guessed` I made a shite fitting part - I am not doing it for this as all the members can buy shite very cheaply from China.

`Rob` kindly came over from Hull to help me design some parts but that wasn`t enough in the end I and don't like to impose on his kindness (despite the fact he`s a tosser   - I hope he reads this).

So, I am abit f*cked really matey - add onto this my day job and I am really stuck to develop this part.

Some kind ember did send me some images which would help a little bit but god knows where they have gone........

Mate, sorry, I don't do fitting anymore - I simply don't get the time but I am willing to offer as much guidnace as possible. The parts do come with fitting instructions but I`d happily gibber to you over the phone about the fitting - it is quite easy apart from the b*stard oil cooler cover fastener which is made out of lard/blu tack and can be a nightmare to remove. I always replace with a socket button head stainless but I`ll send you one of those anyway.

Received my chain guard, oil and radiator cooler this morning - these parts are of outstanding quality (Mark, maybe you should start making complete bikes?  Mind you, they'd probably weigh several tons and need a V8 to run...).

My bike is a 650X and the engine protector is in the way of sliding the radiator cover in as you're supposed to do.  I really didn't want to have to unbolt this (given bolts through the frame etec) and eventually found by undoing all the two fairing bolts on each side of the bike gave *just* enough play in the plastic to be able to get the rad protector in place. Might be useful advice for anyone with the same bike considering making this mod.

I can only recommend getting these protective parts.  If only all bike parts where made to this standard!

Post by: cymarceng on July 24, 2010, 09:49:46
Thanks for that mate, I am sure the other members will appreciate the words about the engine guards and yes my stuff is overly heavy because of the quality I try to acheive but I see it as a pleasing alternative to much in this world whish is made as cheaply and as thin as possible.

The BBQ, for instance, can take the weight of a 14 1/2 stone man standing on it with no deformation whatsoever. Try doing that with a £39.99 special from B&Q  ###

Talking of which, the V strom BBQ I did (by the way, the one in the image was sold the night I put it on the forum and I only make to order.........) is so damn heavy I am now suggesting it is loaded onto the rack, topbox or strapped to the seat as putting it in a pannier with nothing on the other side to balance it could cause some problems!

It`s also a two man lift

Ordered my Radiator and Oil Cooler covers last Friday and they arrived today.

They are the ones with the Club logo on and are even better than the pictures show. Can't wait to fit them over the weekend along with the engine bars and skid plate. The misses is very jealous of the covers and wishes there was one for her Honda Shadow.

Many thanks for the great service and product, definately worth the money.

Thanks Marc for great service, will be ordering the chain guard as soon as I can get the money together.

Thanks,

Andy

Good I am pleased mate - I take great pride in my clobber and after sales service as you may have heard. Please feel free to call me on 07713 789365 if you need any help fitting. just be careful of the OEM fasteners, sadly they are made from blue tack on the strom. If you mince any up let me know what they are and I`ll send you some in stainless steel with my compliments. the only one you may struggle with is the one which holds the oil cooler cover on.

Regards,

Mark.

Well, that's me with the horn for the rest of the evening

By the way, they were a pig to get right, I had to scrap a few because its very hard to get the detailing of the logo right.

Nonetheless, it was all worth it as they do look good fitted.

ta for the images mate

Well Mark, the hard work has really paid off as they are a brilliant piece of kit and they fitting instructions are really easy to follow.

Will be ordering the chain guard soon but won't be this month as planned as some "nice person"  ### broke into the car whilst it was on the drive this weekend and nicked my Sat Nav that I need for work so that's got to be replaced before I an get more bling!!!

Thanks again

Hi mate, pleased you arrived back safe and sound - take your time with the gear, the biggest job will be the stripdown as the stuff fits on very well.

be mindful of those blutack fasteners!

best regards, it was good to meet you.

Mate I haven't increased my prices since I started but the cost of stainless has gone mad nonetheless I can off a 5% discount and to combine the postage - I'm on holiday in Spain at the moment but if you ring or email Kath 01724 289999 or kath@cymarc.co.uk - tell her we've spoken and I've offered a five percent discount and to combine the postage - she'll sort it out for you and advise you how to pay

Hi mate, go onto www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk (http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk) and knock yourself out!

It should all fit your bike but be assured, and based on my reputation which you can confirm on the forum, you won`t be left wanting!

Me to, need a bigger garage.

Had a test ride on one at the weekend, impressed with it, bit smoother, better gear change, just as comfortable as the GS two up, and all in the fastest pearl white as well. The dealership are seeing what can be done on deals etc so should know by next weekend what and when  :lala:

Its about time they sorted the gear change - I remedied that on previous models with a simple spacer - if you are interested details on www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk (http://www.cymarcbikeparts.co.uk) in the V strom bit.

Hope you enjoy the new strom!

Changes the spacing on the rear sprocket for a DL1000 to resolve an alignment issue, not something you need to worry about :)
