Fitted some secondhand Oxford heated grips (won for 16 quid on the bay) in preparation for the upcoming Scottish Highlands trip. It might be cold up there..... :smirk: And had a practice pack. All is well.  :thumb:

Following yesterday’s run to the penines and a drop of the bike very light damage total cost anticipated at £22.50 with the use of paint and etc in the garage all black bits that scuffed slightly mostly the crash bars and exhaust heat cover the bars are filled and touched up the bar end also filled at the very end and touched up this won’t be replaced at this time but the bar end bolt bent and I noticed a few have had problems previously working out what’s in the handle bars so here goes an explanation
A 6mm bolt in the xt case 2018 140mm long others I believe are 110mm long
1 x bar end
1x metal spacer with recess for hand guards xt models
3 x 3mm metal washers with 6mm hole
2 x rubbers 1 with 6mm hole 1 with square hole to go on the bolt end
1 x 7mm cylinder spacer 30mm long
1 x nut with 6mm hole and as square insert for final rubber length of square insert attached approx 10mm for anyone fishing in the bars to retrieve
6 turns of the screw head anti clockwise was plenty to freely remove the bar ends
Picture of the assembly to follow with the bar end removed for clarity

The nut and square shaft are threaded So more than six turns would be possible but I wouldn’t recommend many more

Forgot to mention before pulling the bar ends remove the fixing nut for the knuckle guards or you will not shift the bar ends

No pics, but just fitted an oval Carbon 350mm Delkevic exhaust because the little end pipe bit fell off the end of the OEM one and it sounded like it was blowing and popping bubbles - proper weird sound, didn't like it at all - ended up finishing in the dark (21:30) cos it took two and a half hours to get the sodding old one off  ### and I forgot the forward mounting bolt and then silicone for the last two joints  :violence-smack: and had to undo and re-do several times. Couldn't test the final build because there's a toddler and a baby next door  :GRR:

I did give it a quick test before it got properly dark and it's louder than I thought it would be - but it was blowing a bit (hence the undo/redo)

Other than that, chuffed to bits with it - looks nice (and I'm glad I went with the 350 and not 450mm end can - You're right Andy J  - it does look better :) )

Still debating whether to bring the heated gloves for Scotland - is it really going to be that cold? I usually only use them when it's under 3 degrees and a long ride... and I'm already overloaded with crap (and I haven't even packed yet!)

Sorry to hear yours was painful. Did mine in an hour. Whilst 'offering up' I found that by rotating the can a little - you don't need that orrible cheap bracket and the pipe sits a little higher.

I use the baffle in most of the time bar the occasional sunday removal.
If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

Cleaned bike same as Mick yesterday.
Moved Sat Nav holder thingy so it comes off the top of the dash instead of behind the screen.
Noticed me rear brake pedal has a bit more play - will adjust / check pads at the weekend  lol
May your God go with you...

Work and back on the big banana - then a 30m diversion on the way home to push the new A41's a little. Great dry grip - even on some b-road loose stuff pinging TC1. Think I'm staring to notice a little more lumpiness between cylinders at low and high rpm. She's 12K now, 3K from the first big service. My guess is a little TB balance - think I'll throw her in at 13.5K anyway.

Changed the rear pads. Originals lasted 25,500 miles, the EBC HH fitted have lasted 12,600 miles. Half the distance but at one third the price of OEM I'll go with that.
I do use the rear brake a lot and the rear pads did wear out first on the originals.
Once I got them out to have a closer look I thought they might have a bit of mileage left in them but I'd got the new ones so stuck them in.

A comparison.....old & new................

Pulled her out of the garage this morning to find the low beam headlight gone. Fuse OK. Popped into blackdog motorcycles on me way home through staines and fitted in 15mins. Schweet.

Das ist kaput..

Got the bike back yesterday! YAY :)

It was the stator wot had gone - the bloke showed me the blackened remains of the old one - very unhappy bit of kit, but it had lasted me nearly 82000 miles (which ain't too bad).

Anyway, all fixed now (happy days  :lala: )

Glad it's sorted. Should never bother that bike again if it lasts like the first.

Went to change the rear pads to find that the exhaust clamp was broken - normal problem - Rust.

Pulled the clamp off and spent 30 minutes on the internet trying to buy a replacement. Lots on offer for older bikes. Oh well, off the dealer tomorrow.

Pressing on ... queue 20 minutes of "persuasion" to get the end can detached and then cleaned the wire wool gasket off. Something else to get from the dealer.

Changed the rear pads to find that the outer pad was wearing unevenly. It was stuck at the front (right-hand side as you look at it). Stripped, cleaned and double H pads fitted.

While all that was going on the oil was draining out. Changed the filter and added 3.1L of 10w50 semisynthetic.

On to the front pads and the 1st caliper went without a hitch. Pads definitely needed changing. Cleaned out loads of cr@p and reassembled.

Changing sides and the bike finally won an argument. I can't shift the caliper bolts. They are solid. The first socket was rounding the edges off the bolt head, so I switched to a hex head socket. Even that was slipping.

So, off the dealer tomorrow for the exhaust bits and to order the new caliper bolts, then back to the dealer when they are in and ask them to work their magic in getting the old bolts out.

I love a good fettle in the garage  :fix:
