Low charging
« on: February 17, 2024, 17:01:10 »
I've got a Honda fjs600 silverwing scooter.
It's a 2013 with 29,000 miles.
A couple of weeks ago the battery was flat so I got a new one and it's been starting OK since but it's not charging high enough.
On tickover it's 12.02 volt
2,000 rpm it's 12.16
3,000 rpm it's 12.45
4,000 rpm it's 12.9
5,000 rpm it's 13.45
6,000 rpm it's 13.8
7,000 rpm it's 13.9
I checked the ac volts direct from the stator and I've lost my notes lol but I remember at 4,000 rpm it was 50 volts, I also checked the resistance between the 3 yellow wires and it read 0.2 ohms between each 2 pairs (Honda recommend between 0.1and 0.5).
I think the stator is OK so does this look like a dodgy regulator ?
Thanks for any help.

From what your describing,  it does look like you have a regulator issue .

Should be around 14v - 14.5v at about 5k rpm max and at tick over 13v ..

Thank you.
I just wanted to check before I parted with over a hundred quid for a new one.

Try westcountry windings ,see if they do one for it.
I have used them before for regs and all good and have never had a problem ,better than the std Honda jobby, don't use Electrex,if they are still going, utter shite.

Sounds as if it could just be a bad connection, make double sure before you spend any money.
