Some of this years questions were about side cars and custom builds.

Think I've been a tester for around 16 years now, I don't think I've ever tested either..

We've had that much rain lately that I think it'll be two weeks without rain before the water company call it a drought instead of the usual ten days.

The dreaded Council tax bill has arrived - £3,510 !!! Less for more from the Council monopoly, if only other walks of life could get away with that business model...

Ditto, but road fund for the bike is now £111.00
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I know, it's crazy for bikes. We have 2 x EVs which are £0 per annum tax and the bike is £111, madness...

There's only two certainties in life.
Death and taxes. Unfortunately the only way to pay less tax is to die earlier, but yes they tax that too.

Pre or post 2017 EVs?

They both go more than 60 miles so post 2017... I'm led to believe it will be £180 per annum, which is fair enough to be honest. We've had 6 and 5 years respectively tax free, so can't complain really. I did see (I think on Sky news ?) that all tax categories would be going up in 2025. Of course, a lot will depend on which muppets get elected in...

I drive a 1.5liter car and pay no road tax. I don't quite understand why not but I'm very happy to renew my road tax every year for free instead of the £250 ish it cost for my last car. As for going electric, NEVER! Somethings I won't change, I was forced away from 2 stroke but I'm not going to give up the liquid fuelled engine. I don't think that in the long run, the electric way is as good as some people think.  ###

Ours is only just less than that... But its good to know the rich folks in their £10 million manor homes have to pay another few hundred each year on top of what we lesser mortals are stumping up.

12 years ago today on the 19th March 2012, riding my brand new that morning GSR750, I was knocked off it. The bike landed in the opposite side hedge and I landed in hospital.
Two weeks later I asked the surgeon who operated on my hand
"when do you think I'll be able to ride again"?
"Ride again"? .....  "why would you want to ride again"?
"It's what I do"
And it still is and I still love it.

Non-riders will never understand. After a fairly unpleasant crash (caused entirely by Mrs. Sonia Hartley ) in 1985, family and friends were asking if I was going to "pack in" riding and stick to a car. I asked them if they'd had a car accident would they pack in with cars and buy a tank.

At the start of the summer of 1976, my mate Birdy was riding way too fast down Nailsea High Street with me on the back when a car pulled out.

I spent the entire summer in hospital with my left leg in traction and after 8 hours of surgery I left the BRI on crutches with my left leg plastered from toe to mid thigh.

My my insisted that I sell my first 'BIG' bike an ex Police Triumph T100P, which went to my mate Colin.

Once I could walk and drive again I bought, under duress, a Ford Cortina Mk2. A month later it was sold and the money spent on a 1968 Triumph Bonneville.

The older I get, the better I was.

I Had a nasty accident at work about 15 years ago (a fight with an 11kV circuit breaker, it went to the judges and a points descision, but I lost..). While recovering, the subject of motorbikes came up and how dangerous they were (according to my family). I mentioned that no one has said to stop working ? Peoples perception of danger is based on their own insecurities and fears a lot of the time. Working in a live Primary Substation there are loads of things to kill you, never mind how you got there.

Diagnosed with cancer at 36, the NHS did a good job of fixing me up but during my treatment,  the wife told the consultant that I still ride my motorbike.  She wasn't pleased and noted that if I threw myself at the scenery,  a poor outcome would impact her survival rates. I told her that riding the bike made me feel alive,  which seemed important at that moment.  53 now and still in remission and still get the same feeling every time I twist the throttle.
