To anyone considering a screen change
« on: February 19, 2011, 20:21:36 »
Right I've read countless discussions about the Stroms screens and all the issues with them, the general solve seems to be an MRA jobbie and spoiler, I have 2 issues with this, 1 - I'm not overly keen on the looks of them, fair enough they are a damn site nicer than some of the abominations I have seen people putting on bikes but they still look a tad odd and overly big I'm my eyes.
2 - Not that I'm overly tight in fact I'm impulsive and just HAVE to have that silly new toy I took a notion to have ( like the Shoei hornet I bought today ) but when it comes to something that I'm not mad keen on like the bigger screen I tend to try alternatives before splashing out, this led me to switching my std screen for the 650 X one I got along with the bike but hadn't looked at.
It seems to have solved the buffeting problems and I'm quite confident with some height changes I think it would kill the wind totally. There do seem to be fitment issues with them and even my dealer said they are a pig to fit but I look a dremmel to mine and modded the holes a little and it fits nice and snug. I'm 5"11 and at the moment the screen is in the standard height position I get wind across my shoulders just like I did on the bandit and any other bike I've been on, its not bad and I can't say it bothers me at all tomorrow I plan on lifting it up and having a scoot to see what the effect is.
So what I mean by this is instead of going down the 100+ quid route go see the dealers and they might be able to sort a 650X screen for you on the cheap, My local dealer says the bikes come with both and they usually only send them out with the clear screens on so they should have a good few X darkened screens about to let go for reasonable cash, it certainly SEEMS to be the job for me, if anyone from n.Ireland is thinking of a switch I'm more than happy to let them try my screen and see if it would help them out and save a load of cash.
