Screen Dilemma
« on: January 23, 2010, 21:09:44 »
I have in front of me a standard size MRA Vario touring screen and a Madstad bracket and am wondering which route I should take.

Do I replace the Suzuki screen with the Vario and return the Madstad?  Use the Madstad with the Suzuki screen?  Or, loose the Suzuki screen and use both the Vario and Madstad? which from a couple of reports is the perfect setup. (maybe I've just answered my own question).

Any input from all three camps would be welcome.

Cheers.
Mark.

From the fourth camp. I like the Suzuki screen.

I run with the Madstad and the Vario screen, I can get the perfect setup in any weather then and its easy to move around. :thumb:

Hours of fiddling and it's the tall MRA at it's second highest setting with the spoiler fully up for me. I tried a powerbronze but it was worse than the Suzuki item in every position (for me). Best of luck and happy fiddling, Bry   :thumb:

Thanks for the comments.

I think I'll put them both on and fiddle with them.  I might be able to ride this afternoon if the weather forecast is correct, a high of 4!!! but very good chance of rain. Plus I still have to move enough snow to get the bike from the house to the driveway :bawl:

One drawback to ditching the original screen is losing the V-Strom.co.uk sticker (Nooooooooooo!)

I'll keep you posted.

Reading all the articles about buffeting, screens, helmets etc - I must be the odd one out - just fitted the Suzuki sports screen and it has cured any wobbly issues I had.  Is this because its a fantastic well designed piece of motorcycle engineering or because at 5'7" it doesn't matter what screen I have?

You could always stick with just the screen, Then you can sell the Madstad bracket to me :thumb:

Looks like I'll have to wait and see what the outcome is, it's cold and snowing again. It really was foolish to think the mild weather would last, it is still January!

I did manage to get the bike out of the family room, through the  kitchen, out on to the deck, down the steps, across the lawn, through the gate on to the driveway to have it pee down rain!!  There was some language that was more suited to my previous forum name!!  ###  To top it all  the bike is now in the shed I built for it last year, no more getting up on a sleepless night and polishing something. (on the bike!!) :bawl:

I have found my nirvana in relation to the screens.

Madstad + extended vario.  God knows what setting its on, but it works.

Andy, best swap ever!  :)

just put a tall MRA vario on - fantastic, can ride upto treble figures (not that I do) in comfort and my visor will stay open without getting shut by the buffeting I was getting from the original screen.

Yes, the MRA scereen's seem to be the way to go but has anyone tried Givi's version yet ??? Looks even more adjustable with a longer top section (more like the MRA screen for a Varadero).

This is the latest offering from Givi - loads of adjustment, sadly no idea of price.

I'd be interested in your report.

Being new to biking, I'm also new to the phenomena of buffeting, but the Suzuki stock screen has acquainted me with it quite well. As I'm also eleventy-nine foot tall (6'6") so it's difficult to know what to go for, as there aren't that many as tall as me reporting on screen/bracket combos.

Here's wishing for better 'tinkering' weather...
DL650 Wee, MRA Vario tall screen, Oxford Hotgrips, Cymarc frame protectors, DL1000 seat (for that extra inch), Scottoiler, Cut Peashooter, mudguard Extenda, GPS mount made from idiot strip.

The Vario and Madstad together?  :thumb:  :thumb:  :thumb:       An absolute world of difference, buffeting gone and minimal wind noise.  Should have done it ages ago!!
