Returning to the Fold
« on: July 21, 2019, 09:39:45 »
Hi all,

Another returning member here. Had a 2008 DL1000GT for 5 odd happy years before I swapped it in for a XT1200 mostly because it was my daily transport, lived outside, UK weather, living by the sea and Suzuki's build quality of the time was not kind to it. After 2 years a lower back injury meant I had to get a Burgman 650 as I could not get on/off the bike that well. Fast forward 3 years worth of recovery and I am now at the stage to get a 'proper' bike. Made some changes to my life - moved house and finally after 25 years of not having one got a garage. No more trying to do maintenance in 5'c and pouring rain! Also got a car so I only ride the bike if I want to rather than need to and can look after it a bit better than all my previous bikes - you do not feel like cleaning a bike after a ride when it is 22:00, dark, raining and you are only going to get on it again 06:20 the next day!
So now I can finally get on and off a bike I have been looking at the various adventure bikes and the Vstrom is top of the list! Just waiting on the Burgman to get back from 4th Dimension - got hit from behind while stationary, only cosmetic damage; then I can see how much of a trade in I will get towards a new Vstrom. Not sure which variant of equipment to go for yet, but I like the yellow paint job!

:welcome2: back. I had a Burgman 650, such an easy bike to ride but surprisingly tall and wide. Like riding a fat pony ( I imagine). The cost of new bodywork can be " bloody hell! how much?". Best of luck finding another Strom.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

After having a lazy Sunday mostly reading reviews and watching YouTube videos on the 2018/19 Vstrom 1000 I will now definitely be getting one. Just have to wait for the Burg to come back from the repairers so I can find out how much of a trade in I will get. Unfortunately that is not due to turn up until the 12th of next month - I hate waiting!
