Amused to Death - Roger Waters
Magic. My favourite album ever
- along with Winter Marquee - Nanci Griffith
- that's on next.
-
Rather like Waters albums. Have got Amused to Death. Will have to dig it out and have listen. Also like Radio Chaos and Final Cut (Floyd I know, but really Waters). He makes being full of angst so very melodic, although best not listened to if feeling very depressed!
-
Skin o' my Teeth - Megadeth. From the Countdown to Extinction album, opening track.
-
Quote removed
I have Radio K.A.O.S too. As you say- it's a bit thought-provoking. 4 minute warning!!
Anyway - Nanci Griffith on now. Fabulous album
-
And now, Foot in the Door - Pink Floyd
-
The wife nagging. Though technically, I'm not listening.
Craig Revel Hallwood on Strictly.
-
Mrs Locky moaning to herself decorating the xmas tree, she has ocd.

-
I've got my DIO head on at the moment so I'm listening to the 'dream evil' album. I was actually listening to 2112 just before that however :)
-
Zyklon - Aeon
I think I will folow that up with Ministry - Land of Rape & Honey.

Great song... Listened to "Amused to Death" by Roger Waters in the car yesterday on the way to chainsaw some logs up for friends. Got the Floyd "Endless River" as a late present, but haven't listened to it yet. The room with the Hi-Fi is too cold at the moment. Don't have the luxury of central heating here...

The first of the pish ones as far as I'm concerned but I give it a try every few years to see if I've grown any fonder of it as I've aged.
23 years down and apparently I still don't like what Bob Rock did to them. :violence-smack:

Gaslight Anthem: I don't know what it is about this one, just seems to get better with every listen.

Alter Bridge: just amazing. Love the guitar in this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qyVl9y6gX78

Honey Man (recorded live 1973) by the late, great Tim Buckley.

These are the last 3 songs that came up on shuffle:
Just one of those songs that coincided with a happy time in my life
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDoJYpDbiJ4
Saw these blokes open for Alter Bridge and they were better in my opinion; they aren't as good musically but **** me, they really made that stage their own. So much energy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGt-8adyabk
And just to show that my entire music collection isn't authentic stadium rock:

HAMLET GONASHVILI was considered the voice of Georgia. He was an outstanding soloist, influential teacher and brilliant performer of traditional Georgian music. Born in the Eastern part of the country, he was know to be the best interpreter of songs from the regions of Kartli and Kakheti. He played an important role in the world-famous Rustavi choir, the first choir in Georgia to include into its programme songs from all regions of the country. At the hight of his creative powers HAMLET GONASHVILI died in a tragic accident in 1985 falling off a tree while picking apples. He had been awarded his country's most important honours and prizes.

Also Iron Maiden, but "The Trooper" for me.
I think that the Iron Maiden track "The Clairvoyant" has one of the best intros ever. Also, the intro to "Number of the Beast" is my Mother in Law's answer phone message (allegedly)
-
Iron maiden's Iron Maiden album and Killers were the best ones. But I do like Can I play with madness and Women in Uniform as singles. (Only CIPWM came out after I was born)
The ringtone for all my family is the theme music from the original series of the Adams Family.
-
Great song, wouldn't say I'm a massive Foos fan but this one really gets me:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SBjQ9tuuTJQ
Good song, fun video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgT9zGkiLig
This is one that gives me a huge kick in the feels every single time; the singer lost a family member to suicide and wrote this song in memory - but really struggled to keep it together for the video. You can see him starting to cry towards the end :bawl:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qP6JDLQF23g
That calls for something a bit cheerier (and the lead singer is pretty fit)... this song reminds me of my early 20s :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gPDcwjJ8pLg
-
I watched the last one looking for the fit lead singer. I have to disagree :GRR: his boobs were crap.

I struggled to find something suitable, I don't really like female singers for some reason, with few exceptions. Here's one I think has a beautiful voice (and this is live!!)

Vangelis, The Conquest of Paradise. Brilliant. Enjoying listening to it t work now.
Need to get on the bike and ride to the music. Problem is I would frighten a few old ladies and get an army of plod chasing me. That's why I never listen to music while riding; it can be very distracting.

BBC6 Music mostly, reminds me of being in my early teens (late '70's) listening to John Peel at night on my radio and never knowing what he'd play next and the song titles and artists were brilliant, I owe my obscure and slightly off the wall musical education to Mr Ravenscroft who's son Tom is keeping the family name and traditions alive on 6 Music. :thumb:

Atom Heart Mother.
I heard this for the first time in years at the end of May and have played it a lot since. I tried Ummagumma again last night, but still don't "get it".

King Creosote & John Hopkins - Diamond Mine (a truly sublime little album - it's only 31 minutes long [unless you go for the extended edition] and sports some beautifully etherial, slightly melancholy but nevertheless... hopeful melodies.) 'Bubble' is one of my favourite tracks of the past year and 'Your Young Voice', although more a loop than a song is a proper little ear worm - gets me whistling the melody for the rest of the day sometimes.
Followed by half a dozen Floyd albums - Meddle through to The Wall (skipping the Final Travesty) and onto the 'Other stuff'
...and Finally back to Classic FM...

A great deal of thought and hard work went into every aspect of construction. What a pity the sound it produced was dull and repetitive percussion. As interesting as listening to a kid running a stick along a railing fence. It is so dreadfully tedious that it will no doubt find it's way onto many YouTube videos.

Today would have been my Father-in-law John's 79th Birthday. Unfortunately, just a few months after retiring as a self-employed builder his lungs decided they were no longer compatible with all the asbestos he breathed in back in the fifties and sixties.
He was a car fanatic, and a biker back before I knew him. He was obsessed with Formula One and specifically Renaults. He wasn't what you could call a bright Lad, his Wife ordered all his skips and things and he "just built stuff". However, he was great to talk to on Cars and Bikes and we regularly took the piss out of each others motoring preferences.
On day he asked me to drive him out to a dealer to collect a Renault 21 Turbo. All the way there I had one song on loop in my car while he gabbled on about his new car. He never noticed.

Thread jack alert :dl_soapbox: :dl_soapbox: I am listening to a gentleman in the far east who works for Virgin in an attempt to switch from one contract to another. My current unlimited minutes, texts and data for Ā£25 per month is about to increase to Ā£28 and so I want to reduce it Ā£12 and they want to do a full credit check before I can switch to a LOWER tarrif. :dl_smiley_banghead:

Martin, I always questioned why guitars are shaped like they are if blokes simply twang their instruments at groin level. I'd say the answer is for accommodating female players........ Wouldn't you agree?

How do you know she's accommodating? Wishful thinking?

I'm sure there are plenty of "moobs" accommodated by the design too! Rib cut and drop top works for all when seated. Nice strat too...

Today I am mostly listening to the dog barking at the trains passing the end of the garden on the RHDR and the squaddies shooting on Hythe Ranges.... :groan:
-
Ooooh! the last time I rode on that was in 1961 aged 13. A desolate holiday near Romney Marsh only slightly brightened by a ride on the "little train", a hired canoe on the Military Canal and a cafe Juke Box playing Floyd Cramer's "On the rebound" . I remember it so well. Haven't a clue about last week though.

I barely manage English and have no idea what this is about ( it's probably tosh anyway) but I like the tune and it has cropped up a number of times in the last 40 odd years and now I found it on YouTube. I hear the performer has made a good living off this despite the fact that he did not sing on the original record. Anyhow ......

One on my random playlist for 'bike missions, it does have the effect of "quickening the pace".
Lou Deprijck sang the vocal, he was the composer and producer.
Boney M were a similar act in so much as Bobby Farrell (the bloke in the group) didn't actually perform any of the vocals he was employed as a dancer (like Kwackboy), the vocals were again performed by the producer.
I know shit.

My dad was a French teacher in middle school when that song came out. The kids asked him for the English lyrics. He listened and transcribed it at home. Never took it back to school.

Radio Caroline (pronounced Karo leen) is a Brittany pop/rock station! It plays mostly nostalgic stuff but it also has to play by law at least 30% of French music.....for some reason.

Er, no. Just saying I never liked their " musical" efforts, and won't dive into saccharine sycophancy due to their inevitable demise. Respect has to be earned. These individuals never earned mine. Purely personal .

It was a a favourite rib for Nigel in the (my) office back in the 80's. A super bouncy song with that catchy, won't go away thing if you don't like it. (Not you nigel s)
It has longevity so much so that it is a nostalgic cult song on, wait for it, Radio Caroline (pronounced ra-dy-o ka-row-leene in French) the 'pop' radio programme here in Brittany. They play general across the board stuff with Metallica, Bowie, Hendrix, Clapton on one end and Ed Sheeran's toffee stuff on the other. (They throw in some obligatory-by-law French 'merde' too.)

George Michael. There was a programme followed by a London concert on TV last night and I watched both. I can't get enough of his music. What a fantastic artist. I hate to admit it but when he sang with Queen at a tribute to Freddie concert he was better than Freddie, I never thought I would say that.
I know both of these great performers were gay, I'm not, not that it matters. Some of the nicest people I've known or met are gay. :thumb:

At primary school in the early 70's we listened to classical music at assembly every day.LPs on a "one box" record player. An attempt to calm the hordes I think.Well it certainly worked ,for me it was the best part of the school day and stays with me now.The big symphonic works were my favourites.
Though apart from R4 I have not listened to any radio in maybe 20+ years, since I got the internet really.I occasionally have to do work at other boatyards all over the country and suffer a various choice of "music"stations.Even after 5/10 years since last listening the playlist is the same!!!! and it wasn't much cop back then.

Slade in the USA in 1975,I never get fed up with listening to them.I am a Black Country lad after all,and Noddy Holder used to live a few hundred yards from me,although as I am a few years older I don't think I ever met him as far as I am aware. My eldest sister who is 8 yrs.younger than me used to see and listen to the band when they were first formed in the local youth club on the Beechdale Estate.
-
Would that have been the Ambrose Slade years, before Chas Chandler got hold of them?
-
I am guessing it was,I have just looked up how old Noddy is and he is nearly a year younger than me,I thought he was younger than that.I have no idea when he got involved with Chas Chandler,I thought he was a Hendrix manager
I left home when I was twenty and my sister would have been about twelve when she was going to the youth club, and he would have been 19,I am not sure when they had their first hit. They were touring in the USA in 1975 when he would have been about 29,so they were well established by then.
-
Sorry, another thing I don't like about Christmas is...... Slade. :groan:
-
Nothing wrong with Slade ,though the constant repetition of the Xmas song can be too much. But it did pay Noddy's mortgage so ?.

I used to be the head choirboy ( yeah........I know) at my school and also later, page turner for the Organist at recitals.

I know many out there will have neither time nor inclination to listen to all ( or any) of this: my "go to" music when I need some head peace.
George Butterworth, had he survived, would have been one of the most significant British composers of the 20th century.
The premier of this piece of music was a few months before the outbreak of the first war. Butterworth enlisted and served as a junior officer until he was killed in August 1916 during the battle of Somme.

I played this over and over when going through divorce from my first wife, I was looking for the answer but later I realised, it just takes time.
I went to see Al Green many years later with my second wife, not because of this song but because I have always loved his music and my wife did too. He didn't sing this. :thumb:

I love this, for me it's a ear worm. If you don't like this version Miley Cyrus does it really well. :thumb:

Written by Lucinda Williams after the suicide of her dear friend. I listened to this when I lost my blue eyed boy, my Son.
I need to go out for a ride, I'm feeling sad.
