Yet another genius idea.
« on: June 10, 2022, 19:52:44 »
Today was the day for my annual caliper/pistons clean-up. This usually involves removing the calipers, pumping the brakes and trying to stop the pistons coming out at different rates and generally faffing like no tomorrow.

Not today.

Today I looked at the problem and had a rather genius idea. I needed something that would allow only one piston out at a time whilst keeping the remaining pistons secure. It would also have to be able to work on every piston on either caliper.

It may appear to be nothing more than a sacrificial 19mm 3/8th drive deep socket with a portion removed with a precision instrument because that is what it is.

And it's brilliant.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

That's not marked on my calendars and I've quite a few around the house.

Have you got the right day?

Good work all the same.
So how's it going so far then?

Yes genius TL but was it wise to share the details in advance of making contact with the patent office I wonder?
The quality of the fabrication is impressive unlike the butchery  I inflicted on an old socket with a grinder when it was repurposed into a vstrom swinging arm nut removal tool.

I love solutions to problems and this one is a good one 👍  ..

Well done TL ... Great idea 💡

If there's no patent,  I might just borrow the idea .

You can circumvent the iron-clad legal issues by using 1/2" drive sockets with the same o/d.

Top effort and we all know the thinking behind these ideas is what drives you on in retirement  :fix:

Save time one patent though, these are widely available at a low cost but maybe not as cheap as the socket

Thank you for the kind  words, no patent filed though JML have shown an interest. Any similar o.d. pipe or box section will obviously work.

@Ridaz it isn't a "pusher inner" it's a "stopper popper outer", pushing in is done with my opposing thumbs. Saying that you have given me another idea for stubborn pistons, leave the "stopper popper outer" in place and use another cut down socket on a ratchet to "guide it back in.

Pictures to follow.

Never mind a patent, trademark 'stopper popper outer' that's where the money is  :thumb:

Now that's what I call a proper stopper popper outer.
