Changing job,
« on: December 28, 2017, 14:53:52 »
OK. I have done 25 years as a registered nurse, the last seven as a charge nurse. For the most part it's been a great career, but for the last year  I have been feeling burnt out and I honestly don't think I have any more to give in this area, and I don't want to become one of those jaded people sitting it out for retirement.

I'm 54 now so I reckon I have another 10 years or so useful working life left in me.

Time for a change methinks, so I'm throwing it out there.

Any suggestions? Nothing 'customer facing' though, I have dealt with enough with  humanity already.

Random request I know, but whatever  it's only a conversation.

For now :)

Medical Equipment Manufacturing companies are always looking for people with experience of using the equipment. Quality, Design, Regulatory, Shop-Floor Manufacturing - loads of options and not a customer in sight.

I take it you don't have a final salary type pension :)

Pension wise to get the best out of it I need to stay until I'm 65.

Ain't going to happen.

Going to cut my losses and try to enjoy life more in the present.

I'm guessing you will have "grandfather rights" up to 7.5 ton.. Do your CPC and go driving.. After spending most of my life in a warehouse environment being on the road was a refreshing change..

Mrs Robo was a nurse for 22 years, think she got to F or G grade?, then her health authority was combined with another and she was in the "wrong camp" so was maneuvered out  :icon_no:

Total change of career, she became a bus driver!, still doing it 15 years later.

Good man, enjoy your new role. :thumb:

Top tip from another who drives for a living, never ever moan about traffic, remember you are being paid to sit on your arse. :)
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Moving on is a tough decision at your time of life I hope your bravery is rewarded.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

I work in Powys. More than 5 cars waiting at the lights is considered as newsworthy congestion. Some of the most open roads in the country???? We don't even have any cities in Powys. I know what you mean though. I always try to chill out when driving as it's almost impossible to 'make progress' like you can on a bike. just Got to accept it.

Nope. Easy decision. Making it work is the tricky part.
