Moto Guzzi V85tt
« on: July 12, 2020, 19:13:59 »
So, I picked the new Guzzi up on Saturday afternoon and I'm loving it ! I'm only allowed up to 4,500 rpm but that's enough to get a taste of the impressive torque on offer. I've got 270 miles on it now and I've already gelled with it. It's very agile with light, precise handling and steers much faster than the rake & trail figures would suggest. The standard screen is appalling (sound familiar ?), however a Givi item is on it's way. According to the onboard computer I've averaged 63 mpg thus far giving a tank range of over 300 miles. So far very happy and I shall update as mileage progresses  :thumb:

The silvery/grey colour wasn't my first choice but it's growing on me.

I much prefer your version to the McDonald's Happy Meal variant. :thumb:
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

It has an almost military brutality about it. That's a good thing, I hasten to add. Looks solid.

Cheers folks, it's all good so far. I've booked it in for it's first service on August the 4th so I have a target to aim for and MUST get my 1500kM in by then. I'm allowed up to 4,500 rpm which is fine and equates to 75mph in top gear.

So, a little update as I'm now on to 705 miles, only 230 to go until it's officially run in (although anyone that know's Guzzi's that's actually at about 40k...).

Good bits - handling, suspension, comfort (I now have the tall seat option which is +20mm, makes more difference than 20mm would suggest). the switchgear especially the cruise control. I like the looks, although I get that they can be easliy classed as 'quirky'. Great mirrors, the Metzeler Tourance Next work really well on this bike and I was not a fan of them previously.

Not so good bits - very noisy gearbox when you change, up or down. Even noisier than my old Stelvio and that was clunky. The odd false neutral between 5th & 6th.

Bad bits - screen (a joke), water pools in some bolt holes meaning issues in the future.

Happy so far and going well  :thumb:

Oh, and I'm averaging around 67 mpg at the moment which means a tank range of well over 300 miles !

It's a big problem for Guzzi & Aprilia etc not having enough dealers. However, the way they treat dealers it's a surprise they have any... My latest V85tt came with an £850 part exchange bonus, the dealer knew nothing of it. I had an email from Guzzi to say the deal was on for 8 weeks only. When my dealer (MoTech in the toon) contacted Guzzi UK he was informed he had to give me an extra £850 p/x value and it was coming out of his pocket ! No payment form Moto Guzzi & no prior warning to the dealer. And the parent company Piaggio wonders why they don't attract more dealers...

We've got Jim Allan in Falkirk who are meant to cover all 30,000sq miles of the country. Not a bad bunch though from all accounts although their used prices are a bit optimistic: like a 2000 mile 18 month old McDonalds TT for only £1000 less than new...

I see Moto Guzzi are offering £1000 off certain models (V7111 IIRC) I must say I do fancy a V7 to thump about on. I wonder who finances that offer?

I was out a few days ago and had a close look at a V85.It looked spot on, it had a white/red tank, very nice. When he started it,wow, sounded like a bag of old spanners.Quite disappointing as I quite fancied one.

Yes, they are an 'unusual' sounding engine as it's pushrod and air cooled so you hear a LOT more of the mechanical goings on. If it had a water jacket it would just sound like any other bike and be less characterful. If you get the chance take one for a test ride, you will be amazed at how well they handle  :thumb:

Yup, pushrods, air cooling and dry clutches are not for those of a sensitive nature: best stay away from Ducati showrooms as well...
