I think you may have misunderstood what I wrote - the original WD40 ie the penetrating oil, went nowhere near it!!!
It was contact cleaner (from the brand WD40)
I'd already learned my lesson previously about using WD40 on a sticky ignition barrel in my old van and was given the wrath of the locksmith when he had to come out!! 😂
Hence the contact cleaner flush out, followed by lubricating with graphite powder 👍

Would GT85 be suitable for cleaning out or no better than WD40?

I've used GT85 before, it doesn't leave a sticky residue which is better.

Silly question time coming up :)
Is graphite powder actually a powder or is it a lube made from said powder?

Crump, it's a super fine metallic like powder.

You can also get 'lock' lubes in a spray form.
I've used the graphite powder & it works great, however I have now stated using the spray. It costs a bit more but it lasts for a long time, if you don't forget when you put it between uses,  & a bit easier to use.
Just a personal choice.  :)
Something like this but there are others.

My ignition on another bike was completely locked could not turn it with either key. Used a pencil rubbed over key and ignition like brand new
