Road tax query

A friend has bought a used bike currently on SORN and had it delivered to his home.
It has no MOT.
He booked it in for an MOT Monday 30th April, he has insured it and will ride to the test garage and back.
Subject to passing the MOT does he have to tax it from Monday , paying for a month for the sake of a day or can he tax it from Tuesday 1st May?

The law is you tax it from the day you take ownership or SORN it. I take it the bike was SORNed at purchase? Assuming it was SORNed you can take it for an MOT but once it has returned home (not via a bimble round England's green and pleasant land) then it must be taxed before going on a public road. Or at least that is how I understand the law to be...!

Note bullet point 4 in the overview (mentioned above by tallpaul ... the new owner needs to make a sorn) then the last paragraph.
I presume it should be insured to ride it to & from the MOT station.

@Brocket when I picked my bike up from the shop they would not give me the keys till it was taxed same problem had to back date the tax or wait till the next month for the sake of a few days. :thumb:

When I bought the SV I didn't think about putting it on SORN and it was a couple of weeks after the V5 came through that they sent me a reminder.
All in, it was 5 weeks from purchase to the warning, so I don't see them plugging in the electric chair for leaving it a couple of days, just don't get caught riding it beyond thr MOT & back.

I agree Mr. Nick but just letting the OP know the facts, it's up to them how to continue. Personally I wouldn't bother with the sorn, I'd take it for the MOT and (if it passes) tax it on the 1st of the month.

As Mike Said when you tax it they know if it as insurance and mot, it will not let you tax it with no insurance in place or MOT. :thumb:
