Wiring dash cam
« on: January 27, 2024, 15:39:24 »
Hi there,

Complete beginner with dashcams and vehicle electronics here trying to hardwire a Viofo MT1 to my 2017 DL650.

The camera's manual has nothing regarding how best to wire it, assuming due to safety reasons. The review and "installation" videos on YouTube are also pretty unhelpful.

Can anyone assist with how to fit the ACC cable please? I'm content with the positive and negative and I know the ACC wire needs connecting to the ignition circuit but that's about it. Where is best to make this connection?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Depending on its power consumption they'll be a few different places to connect it to.

With anything like this I mostly use the positive side of the brake switch circuit, rear being best.

The connection should be around by your coolant reservoir under the back of the petrol tank.

Have you considered installing an aux fuse box for both the dash cam, as well as any possible future accessories like a GPS, aux lights, etc..
An aux fuse box solution is discussed in https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=36024.0 and https://www.v-strom.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=24607.0

On my Guzzi Special, due to lack of space there is not enough room for a fusebox. I just wired in a single relay with an in-line fuse to power my satnav.
On the Guzzi Stone, I  fitted a din plug to the Satnav and I plug that into the battery tender socket before I go out.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.
