Just fitted a pair of Tourances to my 2018 650xt. I think next time I'll just pay someone to fit them. I had quite a sweat on.. all straightforward had to break the bead with a jack and the car's towbar, but was surprised how bad the sprocket carrier bearing was after 12k miles. Really rough and noisy. Only had a seal on 1 side. Also the rear brake light switch was a bit iffy. And it started raining after I took the rear wheel off. I need a garage!

Did you fit the standard Tourances ?, As for the sprocket carrier bearing I wouldn't worry to much unless it's very bad as last time I had my tyres changed on the Varadero I thought the same but the mechanic doing the job said the bearing was fine ,

Yes, I really like Tourances and was replacing like for like. Had them on my Aprilia Pegaso too. The bearing was really rough and noisy. I cleaned it out and regreased, and its smooth and quiet now, but I'll order another with seals on both sides.

Tourance are the only tyres for me. They give so much confidence wet or dry

Yes I've had original Tourances on mainy bikes & love them ,
Will be putting them on my v Strom 1000 xt when the time comes.

Another vote for the standard Tourance tyres, no need for the 'Next' version.

I've ran Tourance tyres for many many years on the V-Strom - just fabulous..!!

OK, confession time. The Tourances I fitted are dated 2007. Thy came off a brand new bike back then and were stored correctly. I've done a few hundred miles on them so far and they are spot on, no different to every other Tourance I've ridden on. Was a nice day today and I was pushing them quite hard. The age of them has raised a few eyebrows, with opinions going from " you'll die at the first bend" to "you'll be right". I thought I'd find out for myself.

I don't believe age itself is something that is checked; just the conditions that age brings with it, like cracking.

There is shelf life of so many years, the real question I guess is whether this would be discovered in a non fault accident and give your insurance a reason not to pay out.
The original tyres on my bike were changed at 3800 miles after 8 years as they were showing signs of perishing between the thread blocks, even though bike was covered when not in use.
Through a mix up I ended up with Tourances but have never liked Metz tyres.
Be safe, first odd feeling etc. , please get them changed

Mot rules are changing and very soon, age will become a factor.

I'm an Mot tester... nothing in the test for bikes about tyre age... no perishing, cracking or drying out .I fitted them and they were as supple as new ones. Happily went into bends today at 60-70..

New Tourance tyres are made in China... I have a set fitted to the Varadero.

A 14 year old pair made in the EU are likely to be better than new ones made in China.

(As long as they are stored correctly)

Saying that in a dealers I worked in we threw out a load of old tyres... a few 10 year old Bridgestones and a couple of 3 year old Avons.
Never would I buy Avon tyres after that!
Dunlop are just as bad.

I've had 2 new avons split on me in the past, and I detest Bridgestone tyres.. I failed loads of Mazda cars on their first Mot's for deep cracks in their tyres showing cords.. Chinese tourances came off, german ones went on. An experiment in the interests of science and Internet folklore.. if I think in any way they are going to be under par, they're coming off.

As an aside, I've ran Tourances for years, I had a 700 mile run up to the top of Scotland and back last year, and the Highland roads ripped the tyres to shreds.. the rear was really squared off after that run.. had German Tourances on my Aprilia Pegaso and they did 2000 miles to Berlin and back and were hardly squared at all... more curves in Scotland than the Autobahn..

I'm sure that the roads in Scotland are more abrasive than England, for example, I know in my area they like to surface dress the roads often.

I have had and have Avons on the car and the Pan 1300, I have never had any trouble with them and I have never heard of them splitting before either ?
