Very difficult to keep French 'pure', it's attacked by English and American just the same. You may also know that a multitude of English words originate from French...........
So how's it going so far then?

Go back far enough and they all evolved from cavemen grunts, just some came farther.

Mr Nick said"Much more of what was sense is consigned to history every day that the 'yoof of t'day' rely on some made up androgynous 'influencer' for their direction in life."

If I understand that sentence correctly lol Then we are in full agreement on that one :thumb:

As it is, English is the product of many languages notably Latin, Norse, French and German.  Understanding the derivation of a particular word leads to an exact understanding of it's meaning. 'Decimate', as an example, relates to the destruction of one tenth. While the misuse of the word is of little relevance, or great harm to the discussions of those that do not matter, it's use in the past was deliberate and specific in it's description and losing that meaning diminishes our understanding of history.  One of my pet hates is the term Devastation which may properly describe the effect a Typhoon has on a desert island and not how some random girl feels when the shop has sold out of the shoes she wanted.

So, being of a certain age I am now eligible for my C19 vaccine. I was at the doc's yesterday for my annual 'well man' MOT and incredibly I've shed a single pound from last year, remarkable. They suggested I try the NHS website as they have a backlog locally (I think since the government included people with learning difficulties it has significantly increased the workload in Ashington...). So, I got up early, hit the website and was offered a jab at Barnard Castle ! I had to open Google maps to see how far it was (a mere 61 miles), when I logged back into the NHS website it had gone, try again tomorrow !

That's not good :icon_no: :icon_no: I hope it's sorted soon. It wouldn't be so bad if the weather was nice.   :rain: :rain: :rain:

Bugger! Could've got your eyes tested at the same time.
( Got my first jab today, second is 26th May.)

The slots vanish very quickly, my first appointment went before I could confirm it, I was selecting the second at the time. Advice would be to get them picked and confirm them quickly.

So, I was woken up by the battering rain and decided to have a go at booking my Covid jab again. A mixed bag this time but I'm booked in for Bank Holiday Monday in Sunderland (relatively close, I can smell it if the wind is in the wrong direction) at the Nightingale Centre. Shame it's three and a half weeks away but just happy to be on the list for one. Second jab 21st of June in the same venue. There is a small percentage chance I may get one before that if the Mrs can wrangle one for me...

It was 5 weeks yesterday since my first jab. There is a scheme in Doncaster whereby if you send an email and contact details you are contacted at the end of the day to take up any one-used doses. We were only on the list for a couple of weeks.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

I got a text to invite me for a jab at 17:15, clicked the link included and got an appointment at 18:10 the same day, at the main vaccination centre in Chesterfield.
I was home again by 18:30.

As it was the end of the day for the staff, they were hunting around for 'victims' to use up the remaining doses of the vaccine.

Last jabs of the day eh?
When I were a lad, our year group got some vaccination done at school. Our teacher said they pitied the kids at the end of the queue, because as the day wore on, the injection needle they used got more and more blunt!

There's not enough moaning on 'The moaning old git thread' at the moment...
Save your happy stories of NHS vaccination great-ness for other threads.
P.S. respect to the armies of volunteers helping the vaccination drive too!

OK here goes...  :dl_soapbox:  :dl_soapbox: :dl_soapbox:  :dl_soapbox:

The company I work for were so sure the politicians in Wales would stick to their promise of opening non essential retail when they said they would and that we would be back open as normal next monday they cancelled my part-furlough from Monday.

But seeing as nothing has changed for us and isn't going to for another month I'm stuck going to work 5 out of 7 days (was furloughed 1.5 days)
We can't let customers in the store and it only really needs 2 in per day to manage click and collect and cover breaks... a couple of days this week I could have done solo, but was better to have someone to talk to.

I can't be furloughed again for the next 3 weeks, but by far the worst bit is I have to go to another local store who can't do their own fecking jobs (they literally couldn't find their own arse with a map) and keep the place tidy when we're this quiet and I have to go do it for them!

Politicians exercise a dynamic response to the peaks and troughs of the pandemic whilst government bureacrats devise impracticle procedures written in stone.    :dl_soapbox:
