Do you have heated grips?
« on: July 21, 2008, 13:52:50 »
I have a fairly new DL1000 GT and the heated grips seem to be very poor indeed. They get warm enough to feel it with a bare hand but with a glove on and when you are moving you can't feel any heat at all.

Does anyone have Suzuki heated grips? are they any good? is it just mine?

Apparently they only give full welly if the battery is really well charged. Even if your battery is new you may need to put it on charge overnight to get the grips to work. My Suzuki dealer warned me about this and I fitted Oxford grips as an alternative. They seem very good but I don't know how robust they will be in the long run.

I have Oxford grips on my 1000and they work fine.  Four different heat settings indicated by different colour LEDs. It has to be very cold to have it on the hottest setting otherwise my palms overheat. I did fit a new battery at the same time as the grips, as I had cooked the old battery by using a car battery charger for too long.

I have wrap around ones and they are a bit too hot - thinking of fitting a resistor. I had a BMW with aftermarket grips on and they didn't really get that hot - was told it was because of the aluminium bars conducting the heat away. BMW must put some kind of insulation on the ones they fit. Just remembered - I heard that hot grips can do your goretex gloves in .

Suzuki ones on mine and they are fine.  Had Oxford on my DL650 and they were a little better - hotter and more even spread of heat.

just a thought but what other electrical accessories do you have? The Strom alternator is not that poky, things like running lights use up lots of power.

Hi fatbelly,
I have a K7 DL1000 GT and I found that mine are either too hot or I can't feel them at all till I turn them right up. I wear summer gloves so I'm guessing its a Suzuki problem that needs looking into.

Thanks, blokes, it sounds like I need to bring it up when the bike goes in for its second service.

The thing about heated grips is that people who have never had them don't really understand why you would want them.

Once you have had them you never want to be without them!
