Your model should have both easy start and low rpm assist.

Easy start's OK, but unnecessary. Kind of fun watching it try with a flat battery, (Park light fail) - keeps going with really slow turnover for ages until giving up. No clutch needed.

The RPM assist I think is a bit of a gem - works really well and you hardly notice it kicking in.
If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

Yes it will have easy start and the low rpm assist, both of which the bike could do without, they are superfluous. I've actually had the easy start NOT start the bike (just) once, but otherwise it's reliable. I really hate the low rpm assist, would turn it off if possible, but it's a mechanical solution so can't be.
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

No need for the clutch, if in neutral. Is your bike not starting easily, Biglofty? It should be just like on the video you posted just a single brief press of the starter. How many seconds does it take? Do you have to keep the start button pressed in?
If so take it back to them, might be the easy start system, or some other issue with the setup.
Show them the video!

Thanks for your comments.
I was just wondering if anyone else had a similar issues. The bike starts fine holding the  clutch in and holding the starter till it fires up. I was more concerned if a fault was to develop with the ECU £££££..... I'm waiting for a reply from  Suzuki and will visit another dealer to hopefully clear things up.

Have to say love the bike, I'm 6'3 on the chunky side but still a great ride. Using more oil than expected from previous bikes.

I'd be worried about oil consumption too on a new bike.

Should not be using oil unless you were giving it some stick, a new bike running in should not be using oil. :icon_no:

Depends what bike you were riding before.

If it was a inline 3 or four particularly short stroke engines. They tend to not use much oil. V-twins will use a fair bit of oil by comparison.
If it uses less than 100ml per 1000 miles it's acceptable. High for a new bike but acceptable.
The varadero I have has always used about 100-120ml of oil per 1000 miles and is accepted as perfectly normal for a twin with big valves and long stroke.

I suppose the only other thing I could think of with the oil use would be how are you measuring the oil level?

The engine should be run for a few minutes, stopped and left to stand for few minutes then held upright (not on centre stand)
Failing to follow this procedure could lead to a false low reading.
The excess oil will usually end up in the air box and soak into a filter or be aspirated by the engine. Thus dropping the oil level you are reading.

Yes all 18 onwards year models of both the 650 and 1000cc bikes have the easy start system.
As pointless as it is, but goes down well in this nanny state that has grown so weak and feeble that there is a need to save the younger generation from the unbearable pain of holding a small button in for 1-2 seconds.  :old:

My 2016 V-STROM uses no oil between changes but my thumb is worn out due to all that pushing the starter button. In 16k miles I don't remember it ever stalling or not starting first push of the button.

I thought all the newer 2017 face lifted 1000's had the easy start and clutch assist.  I think my 14 model has some sort of clutch assistant's too. Have it ticking over on the main stand, put it in first year and as you let the clutch out the revs rise, not by much but you can see and hear it.
25k on my Veek now, never topped the oil up between changes. I do change it more often than the service schedule calls for, I do it every 4k but don't use anything fancy, just a semi synthetic. My three triumph's liked oil, one used 800 mil ltrs per 1000 miles( it was quickly sold!) But even the other two still used 250-300 mil ltrs between 3k oil changes.

When I had '14 model, it had no clutch assist. As the ECU was the bad one (the other thread) it was replaced by the latest model ECU that fixed all the problems the bike had and the bike gained clutch assist (not that I ever needed one).

On the oil point for the OP - Mine DID drink a little oil on its initial charge to first service - I topped it up twice - not much but it was down about 1/5th from max. After that 5K miles and not a drop noticeably used. I just put it down to things bedding during run in and all that extra slippery build lube in it. Fully synth since, as with all my bikes except the T350 obviously.
If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

Of V-Stroms, I owned '12 650, '14 1000 and '18 1000. None of them had idle hammer. I always use only fully synthetic oil recomended by Suzuki.

Suzuki doesn't recommend Fully Synth oil unless it's for track use in a GSX-R.

All Suzuki's should be run on Semi Synth oil on the road- That's from Suzuki's Service rep when I worked in a dealers.
It plays havoc with the clutch apparently.

No idle hammer on mine either, clutch makes a racket though, goes away if you pull  in the lever.
No expensive oil used here, Castrol power1 semi from new. Though I might try a 15w 50 next time to see if she runs a bit quieter but I doubt  it.

I seem to remember some talk of idle hammer especially on earlier vees, caused by crankshaft end-float, but the general consensus was some bikes had it and some didn't show it much, or at all; and it was not destructive even on those. Bikes with it went many tens of thousands of miles with no issues related to idle hammer, iirc.
For those inflicted and annoyed/worried by the sound, THIS is one 'solution'
Best bet is listen (mentally filtering out all the other V-twin ad clutch rattles and knockings!) to the bike at idle, both on the side-stand and upright. Then probably buy anyway!

The V-Strom 1000 L7, L8 and L9 has easy clutch assist. Also the 2017-2019 V-Strom 650. :bow-blue:
