ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh bad news!

was out for a 15mile return journey there and the new cans are toooooooooooooooo loud! (and that's with the baffles in!)

Really gutted! It would just me too loud to listen too all the time esp if I was to go touring. There just loud all the time and not just when your riding hard. Would get a sore head and attract too much attention.

Love the look of the cans and they seem well made, going to phone up Beowulf and see if they can do anything to make them quieter. I hope they can suggest something.

Any ideas anyone?

Over on the KTM forum some of the Adventure blokes have made the baffles longer to good results , not with Boewulfs though . But should work all the same .

I fitted a pair of Quill race cans (no baffles and "not for road use" stamped on them- which I managed to hide!) to my 1000 which did bark out a bit. Bought some nicely made baffles off Ebay for about £20 the pair I think, which bolted straight in and just took the sharpness off the exhaust note. They also made the cans look like they had proper baffles in to keep Mr Plod happy!

just found out there today that they do different baffles and they are sending out another "quietier" set tomorrow. they said they will be about 5decibels quietier, so hopefully that will make a difference.

5 decibels should be noticeable, ear plugs are the real solution though :)

Decibel sound measurements are logarithmic I.e. +10 means it is twice a loud and -10 half as loud so if the baffles reduce the sound by -5 it should be quite noticeable. Just keep the revs down in town and when overtaking police cars at over 7000 rpm in 5th and top gears.

ah when I took it out a run on boxing day is was loud all the time, throughout the rev range. Even pulling off from traffic lights it was bloody loud. too loud for my liking, kind of think everbody is turning round and wondering where the hell the racket is coming from. hopefully it will reduce the sound a bit, should get the baffles tue (no deliveries on bank hol mon) will keep yeas posted.

still waiting on the quieter baffles to arrive, must be held up with the back log over the holidays. royal mail tracking is about as useful as a chocolate teapot...you can only track it once its been delivered!

I put Beowulfs on my V a couple of months back. My initial reaction was similar; surely too loud for distance work. After a few good runs now, I am convinced I was overly concerned. At cruising speeds (hmm, cough) I feel I am more aware of wind noise than the thrum from the cans. Decent ear plugs are a must for me nowadays so they help on both counts. It may be different for the missus on the back but that test will have to wait until the weather is more in keeping with her preferences.

the old baffle and the "extra quiet" baffle on the right. (trust me the bike is not extra quiet)

After a couple of years running the Beowulfs with the standard baffles most of the time! I have bought the quieter ones (£15 each) now Mrs Eric doesn't mind going on those longer journeys! and I can start the bike without having to wheel it down the road so as not to wake everyone and set the dogs barking.

Still sounds great but just toned it down a little, the bike still runs great and as responsive as before. We can hear the intercom a bit better too, I'll probably leave them on for this years trip abroad rather than as we did last year and reverted to the original pipes so as not to run the risk of upsetting Mr EuroPlod  .

blokes at Beowulf helpful and good customer service as always.
