Why does Suzuki not build a 1200cc

Unless Suzuki pay your wages why worry about them? There are others, but I do agree the new model is underwhelming - maybe a stop gap until the new e bikes hit the road?

Not everyone wants a 1200cc with a big price tag to go with. The 1000cc gives a bit more torque than the 800's, 850's out there for not much more weight or price.I had a tiger8 before this and while heavier the Veek is much nicer to ride, for me.  Mine will bang along at 80-90mph all day and go up to 125mph if I want it to, I need no more now.
I ride with 3 mates, a multi1260, gs1200te and a tiger12, I never get left behind even at the tt, I've spent half they have, its never been back to the dealer in 5 years unlike the other 3.
Now the 800cc adventure bikes are getting close to r more than 10k the vstrom 650 is a bargain, not everything bigger is better, it might just be heavier, more expensive, more complicated.

You raise some good points there, my 2016 650 V Strom has taken me to Poland, the Czech Republic, Norway, and countless other countries, all in relative comfort, ( and especially in Norway with their very heavy fines for speeding, 83 mpg ) and I'm off to the Orkney's in June. Like the new Suzuki 1050, love the new Tiger 900, but they both cost a lot of ££££. So unless the lottery win comes my way, I'll be sticking with Snowy ( Yes she's white )

:xmas-santadance: Merry Christmas to everyone by the way.  :xmas-santadance:

I suppose a lot of you blokes will of watched new models come and go so.

My question is, do you think they will discount the present outgoing model any more than they already have? I'm thinking of buying a newish one but not bothered about it being the latest  model.

I bought my 650 before Christmas, they knocked off £800 from list, threw in three ally boxes allegedly worth a grand and gave me at least a grand over the odds for my 13 plate Honda. Any deal is worth what it is to you personally....I was a happy bunny because I wanted to downsize but keep a full luggage set :happydance:

It will be interesting to see what amount they come up with, I was offered £4000 for my 2016 V Strom against a new 1050. Not willing to just give it away.
One thing that will be interesting is when Triumph release the price of their middle of the range Tiger 900, if that comes in at about £11000, I think Suzuki can kiss goodbye to a few sales of their 1050.
If you look at the Triumph, and the spec sheet, it leaves the Suzuki for dead.

I usually swap for new model every 3 years. But not this time. My '18 model DL1000, purchased at the end of 2017, will be a keeper at least until facelift of 1050, that should be sometimes mid 2023. I'm very happy with my current bike and see no need to change for something I don't even like that much. Engine is the same, suspension too, probably the frame... The rest is cosmetics and some electronics on XT and I'm not interested in XT. And my headlight conversion to LED on current bike went verry well so I'm more then happy.
So, the actual bike is keeper.

To answer someone else's question- They have kept the same size engine as it's cheaper to get it re-certified as it's still the same bike underneath, they just have submit for the Euro5 reg test rather than every Country\ EU test.

Some further  observations on 1050- some of the additional weight is down to as standard equipment of crashbars\ centre stand (XT), slightly different exhaust (all) also they have put in a clever oil cooler solution, basically the oil filter housing is watercooled! Radiator is bigger capacity. Shoxs at both ends have different internals and dive less. The electronics you already know.
In my defence, she did leave me unsupervised.

It's growing on me. Not that I can afford one but with a decent part ex offer I could be tempted.

Hello All (new here)  :)
As the new 1050XT sparked the interest to exchange my present bike for a new one....
I did some checking to get a feeling for where the price would end up (in Sweden) and what the price were
for the present model (I'm not going to buy a new one).
As much as I like the design on the 1050 I can't motivate the price gap of ~£5K to a new '19 1000XT.
Buying a new (newer bought a brand new bike) 1000XT looks very interesting as they more or less are giving them away
before the new 1050XT arrives.
Will I miss out on anything besides the looks ?

Cheers,

Peter  :)

If you're more of traditional rider and won't miss all of the electronics new 1050XT brings, you won't be missing anything. And the look of new 1050 is also question of taste. For example, I prefer the headlight on my '18 1000 much more then on new 1050. And then, I liked double headlight on previous model even more. I like LED headlight but my '18 has both LO ang HIGH bulbs in LED now (finally) that I'm more then happy with. I hate the dash on 1050 and I love it on mine.
I was also looking at new 1050 but for that kind of pricing, no. And why should I? I have perfectly working '18 model 1000, the way I want it with all the accessories for it I needed and it looks good (as much as VStrom can).
As for the engine, it's the same engine updated a little bit. The frame is the same, the swingarm is the same. Shocks are bit stiffer (you can easily upgrade the springs if you want for little money), etc.
You speak about £5K of difference. That's a lot, I wouldn't think twice.

Not many people pay a Plastic Surgeon 5K to make them look uglier.

That may be the end result, but it isn't what they asked for and wanted.

I see Triumph have just released their prices for the mid, and top of the range Tiger 900's. The Red one comes in at £11,250, and £12,800 for the top of the range model, again in Red. I think Suzuki will have a fight on their hands to compete against this new Tiger.
Oh if only I could afford one, the Tiger that is.

Not only will Suzuki have a fight, they'll have to put the Explore Pack on for free, because if you pay for that extra you might as buy the Tiger900 GT Pro and enjoy the electronic suspension and heated seat. I will be test riding both with a view to chopping in my 2018XT, so let's see who will do me a deal- balls in your court Suzuki ;-)
