Read the service manual linked above and adjust the clutch as per the procedure.

Do
So I went out when the weather finally turned decent and did this. Engine off and I was able to put the gear into 1st-neutral-2-3-4 and back down again by rocking the rear wheel back and forth. When in gear, I couldn't turn the wheel, was too stiff. I guess that would be normal?

Have you tried pulling the spark plugs, for the duration of the test, so that you are not fighting the engine compression?
