Can't get a reading on the oil sight glass.
« on: March 27, 2019, 15:49:20 »
My sight glass is permanently gunked up, can't see anything other than blackness and build up on it. I thought it would solve itself after an oil change but it's just the same, at least I'm happy that the correct amount of oil is in there now though. Question is two-fold:

1) Is there a way to physically clean the inside of the glass? I'd rather not have to dump the oil after just servicing it if possible.

2) Are there any recommended oil fill caps that come with a reliable dipstick? Had a brief look online but the ones I saw all seemed to be in the US.

TIA  :thumb:

Case off job to get at it - I've an new SV case in front of me and can easily get at glass with a cotton bud. Change gasket as well obv.

If it has two wheels.. I'll ride it.

Cheers folks, might just be leaving that for a while then but I’ll order a new gasket so I can do it next time the oil gets dropped.

Or you could lean the bike over a little further.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Maybe, wouldn’t be totally confident doing that though. I can live with it for a wee while longer.

Sorry for my useless intrusion but I checked my SV yesterday and noticed the sight glass appears to be fitted from the outside and held in place with a circlip. I was puzzled as to why this should be until I read this thread.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.
