The battery has called it quits so needs replacing. My bike has a datatool alarm and I guess its going to have a fit if I disconnect the battery. Is there a correct procedure for doing this?

I'm pretty sure the alarm will sound off even if it's in service mode when you remove the battery.
If it was me and I had access to the alarm I'd cover it to dampen the sound then quickly swap the battery over.
Alarms are a pain in the backside and cause more headaches than necessary.

I'm inclined to agree with everything you've said but in its defence, the alarm hasn't played up once in nearly 3 years.

I sincerely hope it doesn't go wrong for you however, the problems tend to start when it's internal battery gives up.

Can you put 'jump leads' from old to new somehow while swapping? You will have to connect to somewhere that will allow you to discon & recon the terminals though.

I've thought about that but it will mean you have live wires which could touch to earth while messing about swapping battery with possible disastrous consequences. Probably going to just ahove a load of rag in the alarm siren while I swap .

You don't need any real current to keep the alarm, clock etc going, so you only use thin gauge wire - if it goes wrong & you short it, then it just melts the wire before you do any damage.

Or, put a small ampage fuse in line with the + wire? It doesn't need to be well made, it's only for a few minutes use.

If your terminals are not overloaded with accessories, a battery swap should be no more than 30 seconds if you are prepared .. :stirpot:

OK for anyone who's interested.... to silence the alarm , turn on ignition, hold both fob buttons for 10 seconds after which you get 1 chirp which signifies alarm going into winter mode. You van now disconnect your battery in silence, except for the swearing trying to remove the old battery!
