Stock or aftermarket on a 2019 1000
« on: July 25, 2019, 11:06:17 »
Off to test ride a 1000 tomorrow with the view of getting one once my current bike comes back from the repairers. Currently working my way through the “what version, what custom bits do I want “ stage. So far it will be the base red one as I will put Givi luggage and different engine bars on it. Question for you learned lot is do I go for the stock screen and change it for a OEM one or upgrade to the Vario Touring for £150?

It all depends on your height in the saddle and what suits you. Some find the stock screen is OK while others need an alternative screen. But again the "alternative" is still a matter of what suits  you.  Sorry to not give you a definitive yes / no answer which IMHO could be misleading.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can.

lol, forgot! Normally I prefer a taller screen. Had Givi screens on my old DL1000 and XT1200 though the Burgman had one by Puig. Hopefully the demo bike with have the upgraded Suzuki one so I can see what it is like

I upgraded to the Vario screen, direct from Suzuki, a month or so ago. It was on offer on their Site for £105 delivered at the time. Maybe, still is.?

Happy with it, as - for me - it has cured the turbulance, although not really helped much with the wind noise ( although earplugs help, here, anyway)

No matter how big a screen I have had on previous bikes I always have suffered from a bit of wind buff/ noise above 70 mph so I am kind of used to that. It will be interesting to see how the variable tilt thing affects the wind flow etc. The Burgman has the luxury of an electrically adjustable screen. Probably fine for someone shorter than me but I always seem to have mine fully up except when doing slow speed stuff (sub 20 mph) then it is fully down so I can see over it. Roll on this afternoon- test ride time!

I opted for the Givi Airflow after reading comments on this forum and it was money well spent.

Yes, I think I'll save the coffers up and go for the Givi too. I took a demo bike out last week, to say I loved it would be an understatement! My only gripe was the amount of buffering with the stock screen.

I've had the Givi air flow on my 1000AL8 forabout 8 months now and can't sing its praises enough.
I was looking for a new helmet because of wind noise and buffeting, but since fitting the air flow there is honestly no need now, I'm just over 6ft and with a few test adjustments there is no issues with noise or buffeting at all now.
In fact I don't think I've had the visor down since it's been fitted even at speeds very slightly above the motorway limit (by about 30ish mph on the odd occasion)
If you are looking for an improved screen they are certainly worth serious consideration.
If it ain't broke your just not trying hard enough!!!

+1 for the Givi Airflow. Put one on my 650 after advice on this forum. Firmly of the view that, for me anyway, it's not the size that matters, it's the dual layer of the Givi Airflow that smooths it out and reduces buffeting and noise.
Hoping to move up to a 1000 and if I did I'd get a Givi Airflow again if the stock screen still gives me issues after adjustment/tiling.

I have only tried the Vario touring screen as It was fitted on the bike when I bought it. I'm 6'-2" and it works fine for me. No annoying buffering. I always wear earplugs but even so the wind noise is negligible.
