Tall/high seat for 2014 1000AL4
« on: October 10, 2022, 18:57:44 »
On the look out for the tall seat? Before I bang the seat in somewhere to have it modified...
Ideally would like to try it to see if it's the solution for me... If anyone has one I can meet up and borrow for a few mins..
Am in South Linc's, but get around (Stevenage and Brum often presently)

I use the tall seat, like it the best over the three seats I've tried. The Shad and the Sargent where better than the oe but not by much, certainly not the 200 mile comfort I was looking for. With the oe, Shad and Sargent I always get a sore tailbone in maybe 100 miles. I don't get this till double that mileage on the tall seat. Just beware its tall, I'm 6ft, 32 inch leg and sometimes I'm on tippy toe depending on the surface.

OK, that sounds like an improvement then..
Not keen on spending 250+ for a "custom" seat to find it isn't better ..
Saddlecraft do there own gel insert, so maybe that's also an option..
Currently don't have a ground contact issue, so not too worried..

I have a gel insert on my DL650. I bought the seat used off this very site at a very fair price, thank you again to the seller. It changed my ride completely, the height remained the same, the seat looks exactly the same but now I can sit on it all day long. I don't know why manufacturers don't fit them as standard then watch the smiley faces in reviews.

The tall seat is not mega comfortable, the edges are sharp and can dig in a bit but it's better that the other two as I don't get the tailbone pain as quickly. I think I paid 430 quid for the other two and the Sargent was secondhand! Never again! I should have known as I had a Sargent on a Yam fz1 and hated it, there just to firm for my boney arse. Maybe the gel would work out better. I did try an airhawk and a cheap Chinese gel pad in the airhawk cover but they didn't work out either.

porter. Maybe you should eat more pork pies to sort your boney arse out, it could be cheaper than chasing for the perfect seat.  :smirk:

Doctor 46, any idea what insert? Could be an option..
I could do with the slight increase in height as I notice my left knee starts to ache a bit.. wasn't a problem on the 'dero... though the seat on that wasn't great for me...

Si,
I've got my 650 seat in Saddlecraft at the moment. It should be ready soon. I'll post piccies when I get it back. That's having widening, gel, and extra height.
Have you tried Padgetts for a tall oem, they were offering a discount.

I'm sorry I've taken so long getting back. I'm also sorry that I can't help you. As I said, I bought my seat used off this site. It had already had a Gel pad fitted. There are lots of folk out there who can make what you are after, bespoke just for your cute little arse. Have a quick search in your local area. Failing that someone here will point you in the right direction.  :)
