Vstrom 1000 purchase

porter:
Looks like a good clean bike. Yes there was a recall for a new ecu and a recall for the none waterproof electrical connectors under the tank plus earth lead. The connectors and earth you can do yourself, I did mine( but that's if the connector is not corroded) and it's easy enought to see if the bike has the new ecu. On start up it'll rev to 2000rpm for 10 seconds if it has the new ecu, if not it'll just go to 1500rpm and drop to tickover almost immediately. I'd not worry about the clutch basket at that mileage, mine didn't start acting up to 20k miles and I rode it in to 33k before I got it fixed.
Take a test ride if poss as they're quite different to ride than a normal three or four cylinder bike. I love mine, my blade riding brother took mine a run the other week, thought it was a right Tractor!

Thanks for the info - I have agreed to buy the bike albeit remotely due to covid. Delivery week commencing 22nd March!

I did check with my local Suzuki dealer they ran the plate and the bike has no outstanding recalls. Only had 1 owner from new.

Fingers crossed it all checks out when it arrives - buying remotely has its risks but also covered by Visa and distance selling regulations so not as risky as it seems, albeit id rather view and test ride it but not possible at the moment due to covid plus the bike is 160 miles away.

I've had big vtwins before (Honda VTR firestorm) and my last bike was a Harley Davidson MT350e military enduro so the Strom will be very refined compared to the Harley! Had a Tiger 800 for a while but don't like super smooth engines they are boring I like something with character which sounds mechanical!

porter:
Welcome to the fold. They are a very underrated bike. I had a tiger8 before this, sure the tiger was lighter and smoother but I much prefer the vstrom, it has much more go in it and brakes that actually stop you!
The clutch will be noisy at tickover, there all like that don't worry. Once you get the screen sorted, the oe is terrible, you'll be good to go.
Hope you enjoy.
