I think I've got a problem
« on: February 03, 2021, 22:08:33 »
I think I've developed a problem or you could call it an addiction...

No, not bikes, that's an addiction I don't have a problem with.

I've gone and bought another fecking tent!

Last couple of years I've been using a Vango Banshee 200, maybe taking the Gear store for said tent and a tarp when I'm camping without SWMBO.
If it rained the living space with the bike grear, adv boots ect was quite limited.
Not to mention the inability to sit anywhere near upright.

I've just bought a Vango Banshee 300
A little taller, a little more internal space and very little difference in pack size/weight.

Someone in work asked "didn't you buy a tent not that long ago?"
"Oh that was like last year, in January, but then there was the pop up tent for my daughter during Lockdown 1.0"

I had to own up to owning 7 tents.
They all were bought to suit a different condtions, bike or car, good or bad weather, solo or with SWMBO, family camping ect.

But I'm starting to think I have a problem.

Ps. No-one tell the Mrs or I'm dead.
She made me promise before xmas, no more tents. :shy:

You're going to need another tent to store them all in.

It's easy to do: I have at least 5, possibly 6. As you say, different situations need their own tent...

I think it might be age-related. The older you get, the more room you think you need to convince yourself that a) you're comfortable, and b) camping was a good idea in the first place. It's like hermit crabs moving between shells, or snakes shedding their skin. When you get to the Winnebago stage, you've lost it.

Perhaps we should do a poll of how many tents we each currently own?
I've got 4. 2 teeny ones for solo adventures, that rarely get used. 2 humongous ones for family adventures, that also rarely get used.

Loitering within tent. That's a criminal offence...

Zero tents here, IMHO if you own any tent with the intention to use it you have lost the plot... On motorbike tours a single occupancy room with en-suite is my minimum accommodation requirement. Why would you want to live like you are homeless on holiday ???

I have 3. I also use a Banshee 200 with gear store when moto camping. Yeah, it's a bit cosy and I can't sit up in it. I can just about sit up in the gear store on my tarp. I take a great fold up seat so not a big deal. The Banshee was bought for one of our sins when he was in scouts and did Ten Tors on Dartmoor. I bought the gear store for moto camping. My other 2 tents aren't suitable for my current needs. Id rather spend my money on decent air bed and pillow. I'd like another tent but to be honest I only use it for a handful of nights each year.

I had 5, now down to 3. A 3-bed with luxury lounge for us Rockets (two of us by the way). Can do a weeks camping but usually 4 days is comfortable. Tent, mattresses (yes individual!) and adequate sleeping bags. Oh and comfy chairs........  :lala:

The first time we tried camping was at the Peterborough Showground, got home and wife said, that tents not big enough.Grandchildren had a playtent. Second time we tried it it was on a wet bike weekend, got home, wife said, if you want me on the back of that bike on holidays,I want a warm room, a hot shower and a meal I don’t have to cook myself at the end of the day.Grandkids had another tent to play in.We went all over Europe for over 20 years, and only used to book the first night in a hotel unless it was a club holiday and then we were based in the one place. That is the total of my camping experience, and I fully agreed with her.
