Remember that the frames are not interchangeable between the 1000 and 650. Even the old single plug 650 uses different frames form the newer twin plug model (and the brand new Wee is different from those too.) I also recall that the very old 100 (K2&3) had different boxes so the frames might not be exactly the same either.

Replied to PM and outlined what Juvencu said, boxes are the same but racks do not fit both.

I think the K2/K3 used Kappa panniers, which I've got some pics of if required as that's what's on mine. The later Suzuki ones were made by Suzuki (I think).
didn't know the racks on the earlier 1000's were different but if you need any measurements let me know and I will go around mine with a tape, mines a K2 52 reg.
The earlier panniers were Kappa K40's I think. They did some V Strom specific ones where the plate at the top was in Suzuki colours and had V strom on them.that's the ones I use.
don't know if all that rambling will help much.

Cheers

Mick.

The frame change in 2007 was just for minor details like the helmet holder wire placement and rails tapped for the ABS hydraulics mount. The 15mm longer swingarm was the main change. 2004-2011 DL650s will mount the same pannier racks.
Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. 2012 DL650A outlasted me.

I was pretty sure one side on the K7+ models had one rail mount in a different place, but can't find proof of it (at least not with a quick search.)

The passenger peg on the right sticks out a little more but not enough to matter. I have SW-Motech panniers from an older bike on my K7 but they use a top bolt. Givis will kick out a bit but I think they can be mounted on the inside of the plate if you don't like it. The advert is a little old but http://www.sporttour.com/shopexd.asp?id=2507 lists 2004-2009 for example. We didn't get 2010s in the USA and the 2011s didn't change.

Is it not just the one side frame that is different for a wee?

See http://www.vstrom.info/Smf/index.php/topic,8644.90.html for a conversion. It's not easy.
