First contact 1966.
« on: March 16, 2019, 10:04:36 »
Don't know if any off you lot are interested, but here's my first contact with Suzuki UK back in 1966! The importers were infact lambretta importers and took on Suzuki just in case a buck or two could be made! It was actually my stepfather who applied for them as I was trying to make a name for myself as a speedway rider, didn't through.

I think that's better rather than naive. Maybe it's both!

I wouldn't call it naive, more honest. Yes it's sales speak but it doesn't sound like the waffling bollocks that most sales spiels represent today.

I think that £1 delivery charge is outrageous!

How much, when I started work in 1961,Shell Super was three and sevenpence halfpenny a gallon,as I was the only apprentice,I had to squirt petrol for all of our customers as well as clean up,make tea, wash parts for the mechanics etc.In 1966 you could probably get about 4 gallon at least, that’s about 6p per litre.

:) yes, I said naive when I probably meant 'refreshingly simple' and 'straightforward' :thumb:

Ianmc are you sure about the price in 61, I think when I first started riding  on the road it was half a crown a gallon and 2 pennies for a shot of 2stroke oil, I used the petrol can method to keep my bantam topped up, could never be sure about how much you needed in those days. Ah those were the days.

Hello Ian.
Perhaps we should talk in the old way of money £.s.d, that would confuse the hell out of these young " wipper snappers " nowadays.

My brother had a super six, which ran out of petrol on the A1 going to Peterborough. Just as well petrol was cheap as it drank like Oliver Reed. That original letter was signed by Alan Kimber who was an industry legend in his day. Met him when he was wholesaling motorcycle luggage.
